and white's next opponent on the diamond is her down-river rival lafayette who visits taylor stadium on saturday afternoon at 3:30 the maroon has been having an off-and-on sea son much like the lehigh nine showing spurts of brilliancy now and then and more often playing rather loose ball lafayette's best game was that against princeton when the easton collegians rallied to a tie score in the seventh inning only to have the tigers overcome them in the ninth by a 7 to 6 score the maroon players mauled the army nine in a rather fine-hitting contest by the score of 12 to 7 . swarthmore also fell a victim to the maroon machine with a 5 to 4 tally after the garnet made a vain attempt to even the score in the last two frames on the other hand however due to the wildeess of three young freshman hurlers the maroon was submerged under a 13 to 9 count by the boston col lege aggregation although outhit by the easton boys the new eng landers made better use of their op portunities to win the game get tysburg college handed the maroon a rude 5 to 2 jolt all the scoring being done in the first three innings cornell too forced lafayette to bow to a7to 3 defeat it was a loosely played game and although the ith acans got but one more hit than the maroon the easton collegians eight errors lost the game in the mat ter of comparative scores lafayette is on about same basis as lehigh the large number of alumni who will be present at the game will be an added incentive to the team to play the best baseball that has been seen this season come on lehigh let's not disappoint these grads coach bill coughlin has a vet eran and hardi-hitting outfield in ernst brunner and hughes or detweiler their work is usually brilliant and in nearly every game so far they have each brought in at least one hit the infield players are not always so good and in many of the games so far have proved a bit sloppy lafayette has a heady player and a reliable bat ter in their catcher charley ber ry the weakest point in the team is the pitching staff coach cough lin has a pair of veteran right handers in johnny longaker and bill seaman and has developed three southpaw freshmen yeisley halsted and lewis of them all longaker has proved the best pitch ing a wonderful game against the princeton tigers the other pitch ers have been repeatedly batted out of the box and have rarely lasted an entire game the brown and white nine compares very favora bly with that of her old-time rivals and if it can display the same snap py brand of ball shown in the swarthmore game ought to admin ister a long-awaited defeat to-morrow afternoon the lehigh track team will match strides with the track and field aspirants of the university of delaware on the field of the latter which is situated at newark delaware the lehigh runners will leave at 8 : 10 on sat urday morning and the meet will begin promptly at 1:30 p m up to the present time the dela ware team has seen action in three meets emerging victorious in the meet with stevens but being de feated by swarthmore and haver ford by rather large scores nev ertheless it should be mentioned that swarthmore is unusually strong this season while haverford can boast of some excellent field event men the fastest man on the delaware team is probably captain pitman the star sprinter although rated as a ten second man for the hun dred^yard dash he has not crossed the line this year in faster time than 10j4 seconds which time carol can easily surpass in the 220-yaird dash he has broken the tape in 23 seconds flat but here again carol should have little difficulty in de feating him besides pitman delaware has a fast distance man in hooey who runs both the one and two-mile events but he will find the going pretty fast if he meets both bray and siegmund in one afternoon which he intends to do according to predictions continued on page four as usual the tryouts were held on wednesday and owing to the strong wind and heavy track no times were lowered but the men showed good form in the events and they are all in the pink of con the most closely-contested tennis match of the season was left unde cided on account of darkness last tuesday afternoon when the match was called the lehigh net men and the visiting swarthmore aggregation stopped playing with a 3 to 3 tie the brown and white squad won two single matches and a double while the little quakers evened up the score with three sin gle matches to their credit swarthmore has a strong tennis team having defeated georgetown george washington and the army so far this season seamore who was easily defeated by rod beck claims the title of having won the junior tennis championship of chicago while dudley who was hard l pushed by law all lehigh lays claim to the championship of wash ington in the matches tuesday fritz mercur had little trouble with selt zer his opponent mercur played an easy game and managed to win his match by a score that left little doubt in the minds of the spectators as to which of the two was the bet ter player rod beck also was not very hard pushed in his match with dud ley the swarthmore man came up a bit in his second set but at that he was no match for the lehigh star's fast game beale did not play as steady a game as his team-mates and quite a few times left his court open to the smashing strokes of his oppo nent lihton who scored the most decisive win for his team in this match koegler gave hodge a hard bat tle and one that should have meant continued on page two about seventy members of the lehigh alumni council will hold their first annual meeting here to day and to-cnorrovv during their visit at the j^niversity they will be given an opportunity to see the college while in active session this should be very interesting to the grads for it is rarely that a group of alumni the size of this one vis its their alma mater at any time other than graduation week and all regular routine is discontinued before that time the main object of the meeting is to discuss the opening of an en dowment campaign in the near fu ture and to this end the joint en dowment committee composed of five trustees and five alumni and the alumni educational committee will meet in conjunction with the alumni council the council itself is composed of the board of di rectors of the alumni association delegates from all alumni clubs in the include his estimate of the needs of the university at this time after dinner at the commons the student body will act as hosts to the delegates at an entertainment in drown hall the band combined musical clubs and the mustard and cheese dramatic association have prepared an enjoyable program and it is expected that a large number of students will be present the cast of her knight out has been rehearsing for a considerable time and will be prepared to present a fascinating program consisting of several numbers by the chorus and other popular features of their fa mous show previous to the show the band will give a short concert which will be followed by several selections by the mandolin and glee saturday morning will be taken up with meetings of the delegates and in the afternoon they will have an opportunity to see lebigh's ath letes in action on taylor field when the brown and white stick wielders will play their second league game of the season against stevens following the
