headquarters was set up armed with an ample supply of but tons and campaign literature on the right the vote for adlai sup porters had also set up shop the scl committee allowed each speaker one-half hour to present his case then each was given a 10 minute rebuttal period bridges spoke first the new hampshire lawmaker was quick to point out that while sen sparkman and i sit on opposite sides of the aisle in the senate . . we are good personal friends he compared the eisenhower ad ministration with the 20 years of new and fair deal administrations and said that the two are as dif ferent as the millenium and the dark ages of president eisen hower bridges made the statement that no man has ever assumed the office of presidency faced with such outstanding problems i do not agree with all the re publican doings but with most of them he said pointing out that former president truman had chal lenged the incoming administration to shave the budget any more bridges noted that the present re publican administration cut that budget 13 to 14 million dollars — the biggest cut in the country's history bridges further contended that the present administration has restored fiscal order to
