sen john sparkman sen styles bridges apo book sale grosses 900 ugliest man contest won by woodroofe philip b woodroofe has been voted ugliest man on the campus this unparalled honor came to the director of residence halls as a result of his piling up the most cash votes of any of the 10 contenders in the annual ugly man contest sponsored by alpha phi omega honorary scouting fraternity the contest ran from monday to saturday last week during most of the contest it appeared as though dr charles a seidle was giving woodroofe his closest competition however final tabulations showed that it was joe gratto of cyanide fame who just missed edging out the winner throughout the contest many see phil's page 7 be th underwent childhood hard ships because of limited family in come both worked their way through college bridges was grad uated from the university of maine and sparkman from the university of alabama both have had journalistic experience bridges edited the granite monthly a new appointment of dr finn b jensen professor of economics as director of the new foreign careers major the col lege of arts and sciences entered another phase of its continued de velopment originally it had been planned to initiate the new major in sept 1957 but the interest aroused in response to the pre liminary announcements in the alumni bulletin and through the admissions office necessitat ed
