bethlehem steel ward where there is more activity dick has regained controlled movement of his head and left arm although his right arm and both legs are still comparatively immobile he has shown considerable im provement in breathing but is still using a rocking bed and an artificial respirator his fine progress is par tially attributed to the many visitors he has had during the past months prof willard injured by accident in home all members of a watershed as sociation have something in com mon they wish to protect the land and water resources for a number of reasons with organization jenkins j b mcfadden and robert harrier secretary of the alumni as sociation — returned here tuesday night after attending sessions mon day and tuesday of the national watershed congress at the hotel statler in washington guest speakers at the con gress banquet monday were three cabinet members secre tary of agriculture ezra t ben son army secretary robert t stevens and secretary of the interior douglas mckay this trio accompanied by their undersecretaries surprised the 400 representatives from 38 states by re vealing that they are the principal members of a presidential commit tee designed to discuss and develop a thorough policy for the federal government regarding the develop ment and management of natural resources the watershed congress is spon sored by a number of groups inter ested in the conservation of natural resources most of those attending represented interests of education soil conservation farm industrial and wildlife groups although many were simply observers the aim of the congress was agreement on a policy for land and water conservation at tuesday's meeting a committee of the congress urged lifting undesirable restrictions on federal aid to small watersheds increased federal appropriations in the field and more adequate state agencies to help develop ment programs for protection of land alert students save drowning /. drowning was narrowly avoided in the lehigh pool wednesday when students pulled from the water jack smith 58 after he had been swim ming under water longer than he could stand smith had been warned previous ly about swimming under water for his high mark in addition he was regu lar third baseman and a consistent hitter for the lehigh baseball team last spring having been a standout in two sports the talented junior was ex pected to be a mainstay on both the basketball and baseball teams dur ing his two remaining years of eli gibility if he had been able to main tain his scoring game of last year as had been hoped he would have
