with lafayette weekend just eight days away in an effort to con trol the perennial bon-fire raiders members of arcadia and represen tatives from lafayette college sign ed the annual peace pact quite similar to the one re cently signed with muhlenberg the pact pledges the student governments of both institutions to actively discourage raiding of the campuses by students of either school if any such raiding occurs severe disciplinary action will be taken according to the signed agreement present at the signing were larry reynal treasurer of arcadia bob haltenhoff paul ringenbach ted baum and bill zeiter arcadia members ralph hamilton arcadia president don kirkpatrick vice president of arcadia also val santillo member of the 16-man committee pete veinott secretary of arcadia fred braun vice-president of lafayette student council and jack gilbert editor of the lafa yette newspaper and don mitchell of lafayette in an effort to aid the discourage ment of vandalism the brown & white and the lafayette have agreed to exchange 200 copies of their issues containing news of the peace pact for circulation on the rival campuses department heads are flying these days — or at least that of prof francis j quirk head of the fine arts department is laden with art supplies he took a nose dive on the main stairway in coppee hall late wednesday morning and wound up at st luke's hospital with a fractured nose and a broken left arm mrs maryann cannata his sec retary reported that the professor apparently struck his head on a fire extinguisher that was hanging on the wall his arm was apparently injured when he fell to the landing he was taken to the health serv ice but no doctor was available to administer aid prof quirk was then taken by ambulance to st luke's for examination evidently he was not too badly shaken up by the incident because he reportedly kept the attendants in stitches as he was stitched back to gether and the oast was placed on his arm still another newcomer walter briggs 111 57 plays the young man arthur robert silverton 56 seen last year as insignia in mr roberts and glenn maggio 56 who played slimmer in roberts are playing the role of burglars charlie and lewis arthur ander man 57 seen last year as dowdy in mr roberts has been cast as joe the court reporter supporting roles will be played by george kantra 58 kenneth ka minker 55 john v thompson 57 samuel cornell 55 robert morgan 55 and donald j smith 55 the comedy role of the shop lifter will be played by miss merle letowt a veteran player with the drawing room theatre the role of mrs mcleod will be played by miss helen search miss rosemarie navarro a mem ber of the drawing room theatre and player in several music festi vals plays the romantic lead susan miss ruth rose another recruit from the drawing room theatre creates the roles of miss hatch and mrs bagatelle others in the cast are william keen 56 thomas griggs 58 ray maon normandin 57 harris plot kin 57 and james meyer 58 the set for the production has been designed by thoburn barker technical director of mustard and cheese and john v thompson tc dances tomorrow in drown japs follow u.s lead fulbright visitor says dr koichi shimada of waseda university in tokyo was a guest at le high this week the visit was afforded through the fulbright plan under which dr shimada is visiting various colleges and universities in the their id cards and money to drown hall room 205 then on tuesday morning council officials will pick up the required number of tickets which have been set aside for town council at the athletic office as their priority numbers came up in the drawing the committee requests that liv ing groups send only one represen tative to the athletic office to pro cure tickets the representative sent should have an identification card and 1.50 for each member of his group who wishes to buy a re served seat for himself only no students wishing to buy more than one ticket will be taken care of until every student has had the opportunity to buy one ticket with the exception of married students who may purchase two tickets by 1.50 and id card for his own ticket and full price 3.50 for his wife's ticket no tickets will be redeemed once purchased see bring page 3 taylor e has been given first chance at tickets for the lehigh lafayette game next saturday selected from 73 cards repre senting 31 monday with successive groups of 10 following each hour until 5:10 when the office will close groups 61 through 73 will pick up their ducats on tuesday from 9:10 to 10:10 tuesday morning while the tions with the mainland would have to be with the red government since there is no other government on the mainland dealings with the nationalists on formosa would have no effect on the mainland the third major issue which the affirmative offers is that non-recognition of red china was not at all consistent with the past foreign policy of the united states for example we recognize russia and her department told delta omicron theta debating society tuesday that it was his opi nion that communist china should not be recognized he based his belief on the facts that it would not be in the best national interest to rec ognize red china that recogni tion is not consistent with the long range policy of the unit ed states and that the new re gime presents no evidence of having conclusive power by applying specific theories to the problem prof dunlap presented various points of view on the ques tion those persons and political lead ers in favor of recognizing the new government usually observe the united states dr shimada is a former presi dent of waseda having relin quished his post in early sep tember during his stay he was able lo attend several classes in the department of international relations under waseda's sys tem political science and eco nomics are considered as one field the doctor was asked numerous questions pertaining to his univer sity and also to current events dr shimada explained that the present foreign policy of japan is tempered to a good extent by that of the united states he said that the yoshida government is careful to follow a neutral course in all its foreign relations on the question of commu nists in japanese schools shi mada revealed that in japan communists are definitely more free to advance their opinions this is due in a large
