600 25-cent table reservations were taken he emphasized however that there would be general ad mission seats and standing room tickets available at show time soloists with the band this year ' will be tom perkins of the broad j way stage and beverly bowser who j was a arthur godfrey talent j scout show winner and who has ' performed with opera companies in ? the east and mid-west with the band they will per form the overture from rom berg's new moon and a med ley from jerome kern's show boat featuring such songs as stouthearted men lover come back to me wanting you softly as in a morning sunrise old man river the man i love and bill the band will open the program with an arrangement of men of harlech by sophomore jack hille gass originally done for the 54 fes tival but cut due to time restric tions following the concert the tables around the band stand will be clear ed and the lehigh collegians will play for dancing until 12 midnight refreshments will be served to the tables throughout the evening by waiters last b&w issue this issue marks the end of brown and white's publishing year next issue will appear june 24 those wishing to work on the summer b&w please contact prof mcfad den alumni will foregather june ]], 12 in order to provide an interesting schedule for all alumni several in novations have been made in the 1954 alumni reunion weekend pro gram to be held june 11 and 12 an interesting feature friday of alumni weekend will be the alumni-facul ty panel discussion an evening of good fellow ship is promised on friday night with no long speeches a picnic luncheon on the lawn by the flagpole will be held satur day a business meeting will be held in drown hall saturday and will include presentation of alumni awards and discussion of new developments to provide transportation a shut tle bus service will operate between the hotel bethlehem and campus friday evening and saturday morn ing the art gallery will also be open on friday from 2 to 5 p.m and on saturday from 9 a.m to noon and from 2 to 5 p.m the first annual alumni art and hobby exhibit will be on display during the weekend also registra tion for class attendance competi tion closes at 1 p.m saturday fifteen afroto seniors at le high who will not be given reserve commissions in the air force have been offered the alternative of re ceiving commissions in the air na tional guard word to that effect was re ceived by col ralph a new man pas&t in a 15-page tele gram saturday and was relayed to those involved at a meeting yesterday one of the seniors involved im mediately indicated that he would not accept the guard commission and many others also indicated their refusal of that option they were given until 2 p.m today to decide terms of the new contract offered all but one man in the administra tive category and several engineers called for three years of active training with the air force un less they are relieved before the ex piration of that period for the next three years or a period necessary to maintain mem bership in the guard for a total of six years they will be required to at tend 48 paid drills and 15 days of summer camp a year names of those who apply for guard commissions will be for warded for approval to the gov ernor of the state in which they reside approval is considered just a formality if approved they will receive reserve com missions and a 60-day deferment upon graduation the 60 days are necessary for processing and formal induction into the guard they will be called to active duty within one year while on active duty they will have almost the same status as air force and reserve officers however they will not re ceive benefits such as travel allow ances for dependents and free trans portation for household effects whether they will be given gov ernment insurance and other bene see afrotc page 4 job outlook still bright for grads opportunities for jobs for the june graduate this year will be somewhat fewer and a bit more ex acting but nevertheless still excell ent according to a recent newsweek survey with a greater portion of this year's graduates eligible for the draft those remaining may find their career chances as good as ever the survey also predicted that better starting salaries could be expected an estimated 343,000 men and women are expected to graduate in june of these 281,000 will have bachelor's de grees the others masters and doctors the ration of men to women will be roughly 6 to 5 that suggests that approximately 186,000 men will be in the market for jobs only 28,000 however will move directly into business and in dustry since the rest are either eli gible for the draft or are subject to active military duty discipline committee reprimands dravo b-l for frosh ride escapade congdon gives exam advice the elements any student who is in any sense of the word ill at the time of an ex amination and is unable to take the examination should not start it dean wray h congdon advised stu dents today the dean further stated that any student who enters an ex amination must stand or fall on the results of the examination | because of this ruling dean congdon urged all sick students to report to the health service for treatment and certification cheating on a final examination dean congdon said will be dealt with summarily and may lead to suspension from the university dean wray h congdon the fact still remains that this type of activity borders so closely to the brown and white by action of the committee on discipline members of dravo sec tion b-l are publicly reprimanded for participation in an escapade the night of thursday april 8 1954 when they forcibly took two fresh man students for a ride blind-fold ed to a point in the vicinity of hel lertown where they were left stranded to find their way back to the university as best they could the participants all aver that the prank was intended only as a good joke that there were no hard feelings or malicious intent involved that it was not a pre meditated or organized effort of any one group against another and that they are on completely friendly terms with victims since the escapade to all of which the victims largely as sent upon hazing the disciplinary action for which is suspension or expul sion that the line of difference is see letter page 6 red cross hjnors dean dean wray h congdon dean of students at lehigh was named re cently to the regional board of the national red cross congdon the first resident of the lehigh valley to be named to such a position with the red cross will serve with the red cross regional area association one of four regional board mem bers selected congdon will serve on the regional board which is one of 1052 such units nationally since only one of each fifty chapters 1954's collegiate career according to philip newman senior class president he also an nounced the class's only graduation rehearsal is scheduled for thursday at 4 p.m in packard auditorium the weekend will get under way on saturday june 19 with a triple-header senior class day * the first such event in the uni versity's history an all-day pic nic followed by the annual class banquet and the graduation ball in the evening will form the days events lee vincent and his orchestra will provide music for the formal ball to be held from 10 p.m to 1 a.m in the ballroom of the americus hotel in allentown vincent who has been leading his band since 1946 has splayed at many college dances in the pennsylvania area including the charity ball here last fall i a clambake and musical enter tainment by vincent's combo will < highlight the senior picnic from 11 a.m to 4 p.m at the mountain crest grove located on mountain park f road off route 309 near allentown a map showing how to reach the ares
