lehigh university brown and white dorms ratify idc proposals the new constitution for idc has been ratified by the dorm sections and only needs approval by the student activities committee idc president robert ameling reported that 23 of 31 dorm sections were for the constitution the number of sections approving it was more than the 75 per cent needed although the constitution has been ratified by both the dorms and the idc it still must be approved by sac this committee is composed of dan hake 54 and rose marie navarro a bethlehem girl are the lead performers in the billy sheridan story to be presented by the spring music festival april 23 and 24 in grace hall hake will portray sheridan while miss navarro will play the part of jeanie billy's first wife others with speaking parts are al greener 54 narrator everett van hoesen 55 and bill martin 55 both of whom will narrate and play the parts of toughies george lemmon 54 as a preacher ken vero stick 55 as mackenzie bob clark 55 a soldier and art roth 56 a bookie members of the wresting team have promised to appear in the production according to fay c bartlett assistant director of physical educa tion also being secured by bart are tumblers weight lifters and posers the list is not yet complete there are still openings for anyone with tumbling skill those interested should see bart in the physical education office seventeen musical numbers will be performed by soloists the band glee club bagpipers cliff clefs col legians and brass choir during the sheridan story among favorites to be rendered will be loch lomond sidewalks of new york auld lang syne sentimental journey and battle hymn of the republic also helping to unfold the story of see festival page 6 complaints not sent by senior class working over the floor plans of the 54 music festival are from left edwin van brunt assistant stage manager bud wooley assistant coordinating director and george cron technical director and chief of personnel three faculty members three arca dia members and is headed by dean hayes the committee approves and considers all student functions and organizational proceedings there will be a special meeting of sac on next wednesday afternoon for the express purpose of approv ing the constitution in a statement issued by ame ling he said that he expected no trouble from sac in getting it approved he also said that once it had been approved by sac it will go into effect imme diately this means that if it is approved next wednesday the newly elected dorm officers will be operating under a new order among the provisions in the new constitution are a council of nine men consisting of the presidents of each dormitory and the chairman of four standing committees treasury social athletic and discipline indi vidual section presidents will no longer be voting members on idc each dorm will have a similar or ganization consisting of the section presidents and the chairmen of the four standing committees president of idc will be chosen from among the house presidents a man will no longer be permitted to hold two offices thus the dorm which has its president elected head of idc must elect a new president richard schechtman 54 is chair man of the idc constitutional com mittee that submitted the new docu ment which was instigated by don schindel 54 miss holman scl extra libby holman who has just com pleted a comeback-tour of europe will appear as star of tonight's scl program in packard lab miss hol man blazed her way across the american stage in the 30's with such great classics as moaning low can't we be friends and body and soul although miss holman's songs were more sophisticated than the early blues from which they were derived she still substi tutes flesh and fury for hearts and flowers her goal through the years has been to explore american ballads and their meanings in 1950-51 miss holman and her accompanist gerald cook performed in france italy switzerland and the netherlands musical settings in her per formances are provided by her assistant gerald cook who stu died with nadia boulanger on last jan 8 miss holman ap peared at the academy of music in received the promise that the situation would be looked into kaiser's talk well received analyzing the occasion and being ready to cope with the unexpected were the main points in lloyd e kaiser's talk which started off the leadership lecture series approximately 75 students were present for the first of these lectures and participated in small group discussions which were held immediately after the talk in public speaking he advised getting audience contact in the be ginning of a talk and not talking down to an audience a fundamental method of debate he noted is to build up an oppo nent's argument making statements with weak foundations later when the speaker approaches the climax one can easily refute the argument by breaking down what is supposed ly the basis of the other person's debate changing at the 11th hour is one of the prime abilities in be ing a good speaker kaiser ad see leaders page 5 newman also stated that he had talked to dean byron c hayes and was satisfied with the discussion a list of grievances had been pre sented to the meeting of the senior lass late last year for their approval of the class it was decided at that time that the list as a whole be ac cepted and each individual point voted on separately it was also decided at that meeting that copies of the griev ances would be sent to the board of trustees president and vice president of the university the original list included seven grievances six of these were ap proved by a majority of the class gathering the committee was to in vestigate this list and reword it where they found revision neces sary a final draft made up by this com mittee was to be presented to an other general meeting of the men of 54 however such a meeting never took place newman also announced that there would not be another senior class meeting until after the spring vacation the group is waiting for a report of the senior graduation weekend committee the weekend will include a picnic formal ban see seniors page 3 next cone-naper will get 100 penalty -- rueter i have tried as much as possible to help the lehigh boys whenever they get in trouble but i will not put up with any more thievery of the traffic cones police chief ray mond rueter told the b&w in an interview wednesday the next one who takes any of these cones will get the full penalty of the law 100 fine plus costs the chief continued rueter said that one of the local milkmen had reported that he had seen several of the cones on the campus when he was delivering milk some of the cones were re ported in the entrances to the dorms and three others were blocking off one of the roads these cones were put there for safety a serious accident might re sult if one or two are taken he stated with the traffic conditions what they are these cones are need ed and we do not have the time to take these cones in every night and put them out again in the morning it is too much extra work when asked how much longer see cones page 6 54 gift plan aims at record subscriptions for the senior class gift plan number 194 according to frank f lusby jr 54 chairman of the class gift committee lusby stat ed that 36 per cent of the senior class has already contributed with the goal of the committee lying at 75 per cent participation there are four fraternities who have contributed 75 per cent or more and four dorm groups who have gone over the three-quarters mark fraternity men have contributed at a rate of 44 per cent to date with dorm men and town students having donated at 32 per cent and 30 per cent respectively lusby stated that the progress of the subscription drive has been not too bad he added there has been some resistance but that is to be ex pected the gift plan runs similar to an insurance policy with participants paying into the fund for twenty years at the end of that time an appropriate gift will be selected for presentation to the university lusby commented that one ob stacle is the incomplete list of grad uating seniors he stated that the committee cannot contact every senior until petitions for graduation are filed tiny guests dine at lh on wood although most of the people who inhabit lamberton hall were under the impression that activity there ended when the place closed for the night the truth is that some tiny vi sitors have been having quite a pic 4 nic there for some time it seems that a horde of ter mites has taken a liking to the wood of the door and window frames separating the cloak room from the dining area but their picnic is over now — the inhabited wood has been re moved andrew j litzenberger director of buildings and grounds believes that they have been here for sev eral years probably well nested in the wood when it was purchased 15 years ago since termites
