another attempt at lehigh's first eiwa crown since 1948 met with fail ure last weekend as the engineers finished third two points behind second place penn state which had 25 points though only its first year in the league pitt took top honors with 37 points four of gerry leeman's grapplers won their way into the finals but none could win titles jimmy mahoney ken faust ed eichelber ger and werner seel all had to be content with second place alex mccord who won the 123 pound title in a startling upset last year was eliminated in the semi final round by hugh peery defend ing national champion and eventual winner this year alex finished fourth as he was defeated by gene d'allesandro of rutgers in the con solation round while the engineers two defend ing titlists failed to retain their championships penn state's dick lemyre and jerry maurey the two other champions in the tourney came through lemyre defeated ma honey to become a three-time win ner at 130 pounds maurey won his second crown by downing faust in a thrilling overtime match pitt demonstrated its superi ority by copping three indivi dual championships the pan thers placed five men in the finals and had the team whether arca dia would co-sponsor a leadership program with the junior class pend ing the success of the junior pro gram this spring the purpose of the program is to bring out the leader ship characteristics of those attend t ing the sessions past president ralph meer warth presided at the meeting the first for the eighth arcadia with many members of the old arcadia present to assist the new men former arcadian buell miller pointed out that the program had fallen through four years ago when only seven people showed up for one of the meetings he also said that leadership is an intangible quality that cannot be taught and that he would hate to see the new arcadians undertake such a project and receive bad pub licity another former arcadian francis j flynn invited the new men to a meeting with four faculty members to discuss the revamping of the fa culty evaluation program ralph hamilton announced that petitions for the 16-man committee must be returned by march 26 they are now available in the arcadia office new arcadian dave sidikman outlined idc's new plan under which the grounds and stair ways in the various dorms are under the care of the janitors philip b woodroofe director of residence halls will now con trol the dorms they were for merly under the jurisdiction of the department of buildings and grounds hamilton also made a report from the disciplinary committee he an nounced that only one case of cheat ing had come before the group and stated that a much larger number had been reported in previous years such offenses as traffic and parking violations were also handled by the committee hamilton said but the disciplinary measures were light for violators after the meeting the members of the new and the old arcadia met to discuss the functions of the officers a party at theta chi fraternity com pleted the evening's events and a question and answer session was held there to assist the new men work on the new addition to fritz signed by their parents and these are still available in the admissions office those under 21 must pre sent this card at the time of do nation those who cannot keep their ap pointments because of illness or other reasons are requested to no tify the red cross a list of instruc tions regarding eating have been sent to the blood donors by the red cross progress good on fritz labs new addition construction of the new addition to fritz lab is making steady pro gress according to samuel errera engineer of tests and an associate of the project upon completion the structure will be occupied by the civil engineering department the north side mezzanne is expected to be completed soon and offices will be moved there after the south wing of the building is vacated it will be dismantled so that steel ties may be erected connecting the two buildings the wall between them will then be razed com pletion of the pit for the new testing machine is scheduled for april 15 when the erection of the structural steel will begin original plans provided for a six or seven-foot foundation in the area near the powerhouse but the ground was found unfavorable for support ing the roof columns creating
