move on the new arcadia would be to work on the arcadia orientation program campus safety project and discussion of the health center three candidates received the electoral quota they were eu gene murphy 56 walter carl son 57 both 11th ballot and william zeiter 55 17th ballot elimination of the lowest candi dates accounted for the election of the remaining nine students to the 15 man governing body the election was over on the 17th ballot candidates elected in this manner were louis peters 55 99 votes paul ringenbach 57 94 votes stan ley corbett 55 93 votes william wessner 55 90 votes lawrence reynal 55 87 votes robert halten hoff 57 and john crandall 55 both 77 votes theodore baum 55 76 votes and david sidikman 55 75 votes sidikman ended the 17th bal lot in a tie with richard glass berg 55 for the 15th position after a conference with the two candidates the arcadia election committee decided to examine the ballots of those men elected ed but who did not exceed the 100-vote quota redistribution of these ballots gave the post to sidikman by a margin of three votes voting was much heavier than last year sixty seven per cent of the eli gible students participated as com pared to 61 per cent in the last ar cadia election a total of 1585 votes were recorded 68 more than last year kenneth verostick 55 has been assigned the title role in the mus tard and cheese club's forthcoming production of the celebrated comedy of naval life in war-time mister roberts the role he plays is of a lieutenant j.g stuck aboard an old bucket of a cargo ship who impa tiently fears the war will pass him by before he can get transferred to a real fighting ship mister roberts one of the most successful comedies in the history of the american theatre written by thomas heggen and johusa logan is being present ed by mustard and cheese club for two performances beginning friday march 19 all the action of the comedy takes place aboard the fictional ship known as the ak-601 which mono tonously performs its chores of car rying naval cargoes thousands of miles behind the battle lines only one woman appears in the cast she is an army nurse who comes aboard for a brief visit while the ship is in port the excited de light of the wild crew who have be come starved for the sight of a pret ty girl is hilarious this role will be played here by francis austin richard corney 54 will be seen as the embittered tyrannical com mander of the ship who hates hi efficient junior officer roberts be cause of the lieutenant's education and ability to win the loyalty of the crew edward rand 54 will be en sign pulver the bragging lazy offi cer who shares roberts bunk-room richard grant 54 will be seen as the cynical clear-head ed understanding ship's doctor some of the other members of the brawling hard-boiled crew will be played by arthur ander man 56 joseph moser 55 gil bert moskowitz 56 robert sil verson 55 and theodore gor man 57 see m&c page 4 campaign literature was removed sunday afternoon by arcadia elec tions committee chairman tom nitsche from the bulletin board in the lobby of drown hall next to the polling table the literature described as yellow and pink mimeographed lists including names of the can didates who had not attended any of the recent arcadia meet ings and corrections was the same as that of which arcadia's elections committee had pre vously cited arcadian malvern gross jr as the originator nitsche said the question whether posting the literature was a viola tion of the paa will be determined by the elections committee he also said the committee would consider the expenses incurred in publishing the literature and the possible effects it might have had on the 15 limit allowed each of the listed 20 candi dates for their campaign expenses see gross page 4 an increase of 3900 over the sum given by the university to the com t mittee on student club finance last year for student activities has been approved by arcadia for next directory and the soon to-be published activities di rectory faculty-student relationships were in connection with the two-week interfaith conference being led by will herberg this week and next two seminars are being held discuss ing approaches to religion and religion and science the first of the discussions is being held this afternoon at 4 in drown hall in which herberg is presenting the three basic out looks of the world — the hea then the philosophical-mystical and the biblical-historical — dis cussing them as defining the fundamental approaches to re ligion next tuesday herberg will pre sent and discuss the same topic in rooms 1 and 2 of drown hall at 4 p.m within the framework given above herberg will undertake a cri tical examination of such central conceptions as knowledge and truth the right and the good in order to show the diverse meanings of these terms in the context of different ap proaches the underlying purpose of the dis cussions is to define frames
