ifc proposal on average of frosh tabled dual count of avgs upsets tally arcadia elections committee has announced that it is not responsible for the anonymous literature that has been circulated around the cam pus throughout the campaign it cit ed arcadian malvern j gross jr as the originator a bulletin was prepared by gross listing the names of the candidates who had not attended any of the recent arcadia meet ings this bulletin was with drawn shortly after publication in its place appeared a bulletin with a list of the candidates who attended one or more of the recent arcadia meetings and the names of those who were on the arcadia 16 man committee were designated by asterisks gross admitted that he was the author and stated his reason to be that he thought it would show to the voters which candidates were and which candidates were not interest ed enough to attend an arcadia meeting arcadia president ralph meerwarth said that he would not have done what gross did because he thought that sending around such a list was a serious breach of campaign ethics arcadia's election committee is sued the following statement re garding gross action see arcadia page 4 the proposed amendment calling for a 1.50 average for freshmen be fore they can be pledged was again tabled at the monday night meeting of the interfraternity council a motion calling for a pledge to carry 12 hours in the summer if his average is to be counted toward his initiation was also tabled without discussion dean byron c hayes spoke to the gathering on the proposed amend ment and fraternity scholarship on the whole personally i am not sure that 1.50 is the answer or any set of fig ures dean hayes said in any task of this sort standard can only be interpreted in individual circum see summer page 6 herberg will remain at lehigh for two weeks the conference will start sunday at 5:30 p.m with an inter denominational supper and rally in drown hall herberg will speak on anxiety vs faith for the next two weeks he will speak and hold discussions at various points on the campus a daily schedule of events will ap pear every day on the bulletin board in front of the library a schedule will be distributed with this issue of the brown and white during his stay at lehigh her berg will be a guest at the phi gam ma delta fraternity house anyone wishing to speak to him personally may call the chaplains office ext 271 by making students think about the world in which they live he has created tremendous enthusiasm in catholic jewish and protestant groups on other campuses lecturing at prince ton harvard lowa notre dame smith wellesley stanford jew ish theological seminary and union theological seminary his recent book judaism and the i modern man an interpretation of the jewish religion has been ac claimed by dignitaries of all faiths herberg is now at work on a study of the relationship of religion and social sciences catholic jewish and protestant groups are each sponsoring herberg at one of their meetings aside from these group meetings he has been invited to speak at many classes in the various departments he will also conduct two seminars for the students and faculty and one for the faculty alone and finally smashed into a car owned by v cortlandt smith a geology graduate student smith's car was pushed into the fourth car owned by warren n stuber 57 levy's car traveled a 150-foot course according to levy he had parked his car in front of price hall while visiting a friend in the dorm when he came out his car wasn't where he had left it he claimed the emer gency brake was still set when he reached the accident scene levy's car suffered damage to the left rear fender and taillight while the other cars were dented and scratched smith's car was pushed up over the curb a similar runaway accident oc curred jan 6 alexander f bodner university technician watched his car roll from its parking place in the alumni memorial lot across the street over the sidewalk and into the fence averages of all-fraternity all town and all-dorm are above the average of the entire university this statement appeared in the ar ticle on the fall semester averages in the feb 26 issue of the brown and white dean b c hayes pointed out that this was misleading because 96 fraternity men live in the dorms or hi town and their av erages were counted twice the average of the town fraternity men was 2.358 and the dorm fraternity men was 2.262 there are 87 fraternity men who live in town and nine fraternity men who live in the dorms if their aver ages are counted in both living groups the all-fraternity average is ahead with 2.082 to all-town 2.075 and all-dorm 2.0614 on the other hand if these 96 men's averages are disregarded com pletely all-dorm leads with 2.060 all-fraternity is 2.050 and all-town is 2.031 see 96 men page 6 among others betas missing in listing new pledges in the last issue beta theta pi was and lamberton hall vo ters must present their id cards in order to be permitted to vote results of the elections will be published in the brown and white on tuesday combined glee clubs of beaver college and lehigh along with le high's brass choir will present a con cert at 4 p.m sunday afternoon in packer chapel prof william h schempf head of the department of mu sic will direct both glee clubs and the brass choir in this con cert which will be open to the beaver lehigh glee clubs will give concert of 4 sunday public free of charge works by reiche and ewald will be played by the brass choir while the two glee clubs will join to sing o admirabile commercium and alleluia by randall thompson under the direction of dr w lawrence curry the beaver glee club will be heard in a group of backward down taylor st careening off one car and finally stopping back-to-back to the two parked cars mule's roustabout rousts about the second runaway campus car accident of the year took place wed nesday afternoon when an automobile parked across from price hall rolled backward downhill striking three parked cars on its erratic route only slight damage was done to the cars and no one was injured the wandering car owned by richard levy a visiting student from muhlenberg college rolled from the west side of taylor st across the road to hit a car owned by thomas e davidson 54 careened
