the ninth semester in a row all-university average drop ped to 2.0612 a low point since the war according to registrar james h wagner all-fraternity average was higher than the all dorm or all-town average drinker iv drinker 111-a and dravo d-l showed the largest increase while sigma chi tempo 11 sigma nu and taylor e showed the greatest drops averages of all-fraternity all town and all-dorm are all above the average of the entire university fraternity men who live in dorms and the town have their averages counted twice once for the fraterni ty and once for the dorm or town since the entire university aver age went down 0.1402 any living group that did not go down this amount theoretically gained considering that the universi ty average dropped 0.1408 we find that the junior and fresh all town men 2.075 see averages page 5 begg noted choreographer to stage dances for festival john begg local dance instructor and alumnus of the metropolitan opera ballet will once again do the choreography for the spring music festival begg as well as being with the met has appeared in numer ous broadway musicals and with the famous markova and dolin among the outstanding chore ographers he has worked with are agnes de mille jerome bobbins and helen tamiris he was also guest choreographer for the miss slavenska ballet in the 1951-52 season begg was also director of the chil dren's theater presentation of his own composition ballet minia tures at broughal high school a few years ago some of his pupils in the bethehem area have appeared on television programs in the past he is managed by e g hayne in new york city lehigh students and guests will remember last year's festival and its fine choreography which was done by begg perhaps the outstanding presentation was his fine bit of choreography of ravel's bolero this year begg will choreograph the first part of the festival as well as the billy sheridan story under fire at the seventh meeting of arcadia monday night was the manner in which the health service handles excused cuts last week the arcadia subcommittee on health service problems interviewed dr c o keck on the procedure used for giving excused cuts and discussed the possibility of making changes dr keck stated the present policy as follows if a student brings a note from a doctor or parent the excuse is granted if he does not the student's past record is examined and the number of past excuses deter mines whether tli c excuse is see arcadia page 4 solons debate health service excused cuts a grand march by scabbard and blade replete with collide at new st gate a 1940 ford station wagon driven by henry benjamin 56 was rolled on its right side against one of the pillars at the new st entrance to the campus monday night as a result of a collision with a 1951 chevrolet se dan driven by anne kovalenko a reporter for the allentown call chronicle benjamin was driving south on s new st at about 7:55 p.m when his car was struck by the chevrolet which police said had failed to stop at the stop sign on packer the ford was damaged on both the left and right sides and two side windows were broken the stone pillar at the corner was lehigh university bethlehem pa all-men's hits 2.06 new post-war low 54 blood pledges below 53 total three-hundred and thirty donors out of an undergraduate student body of approximately 2,700 men had pledged to give to the blood drive as of last wednesday night last year records were shattered as 673 contributed to the blood for defense program there were 110 pints given by walk-ins which off set the failure of over 60 pledges to turn up last year's record of pints given surpassed the previous year by 179 points tommy tucker buddy williams bands for hp election fever rises as 33 await mar 5,6,8 platforms and pictures of the 33 arcadia candidates will be published by the brown and white in next tuesday's issue included in the b&w will be a synopsis of each platform with an accompanying picture voting for the candidates will be held friday mar 5 saturday mar 6 and monday mar 8 polls will be located at various buildings around campus the hare system of voting proportional representa tion will be used dance bands for the 1954 spring houseparty were announced at the last junior class cabinet meeting on feb 18 buell miller 55 chairman of the dance committee named tommy tucker as the main band and buddy williams as the second band miller explained that al though tommy tucker had nev er been here before he had heard extremely good reports of him recently from other eastern colleges other plans for the spring dance which will be sponsored by the junior class were outlined in order to facilitate the checking of coats this year the dance ticket will be divided into three parts one part to be taken at the door one for the door prize and one with which to check coats this method will eliminate the ne cessity for extra coat stubs and will make the checking process much see band page 5 although 29 groups which in cluded 15 fraternities and 14 dorm sections had not reported by wed nesday 169 fraternity men and 161 men from the dorms have already pledged their blood fraternities which have failed to report were alpha chi rho chi psi delta tau delta delta upsilon kappa alpha kappa sigma lamb da chi alpha phi delta theta phi sigma kappa psi upsilon sigma chi sigma blood donations from this section was the answer which drinker 2-b returned with its blank donation cards red cross sources have reported that lehigh was one on the best col leges to contribute to the drive last year proportionally l.u had a 4 to 1 advantage over lafayette six students and faculty members gave their fifth pint of blood during last year's drive a total of 90 mem bers of the lehigh family volunteer ed blood but were rejected for phy sical reasons tomorrow's military ball features grand march posters advertising the platforms of the various candidates are now limited to specific bulletin boards which have been erected around the campus in conspicuous places this ruling has been effected to eliminate the unsightly result of last year's policy which permitted trees posts and department bulletin boards to be defaced by the signs ralph hamilton is the only mem ber of the present arcadia to run for re-election included in the group running for office are 19 jun iors seven sophomores and six freshmen of these 15 will be elect ed to the arcadia body
