seating plans committee of arcadia in conjunction with ifc idc town council and the athletic department has announced the ticket sell ing plan for the lehigh-lafayette game nov 21 tickets will go on sale at the athletic office on monday at 9:10 a.m to all groups except town groups according to their priority number which has been chosen at a drawing of 30 fraternities 30 dormitory sections and 11 town groups members of town group will bo able to get seats corresponding with their priority positions in the draw j ing tuesday from 10:10 to 5 p.m and wednesday until noon they will ob tain the tickets which were with drawn for them as their number came up on monday and tuesday members of town council wil place orders for their tickets through the system devised by the council they will bring their id cards to the designated station set up by town council then on tues day morning council officials will pick up those that have been set aside for them at the athletic office it is recommended by the committee that the living groups send only one representative to the athletic office with an id card for each member who wish es to get a reserved seat no stu dents will be able to obtain more than one ticket until ev ery student has had the opportu nity to get one ticket married students may obtain two tickets by presenting his id card and full price 3.50 for wife's ticket married students should place order with living group representative the athletic office maintains a list of married students prepared by the registrar for checking purposes students who wish to purchase additional tickets may apply at the athletic office after 2:10 on wed nesday afternoon these students are requested not to get an individ ual ticket with their living group and expect to exchange it on wed nesday students are urged not to buy tickets for or with alumni alumni requests are being hand it's no picnic in b & w band fourteen debate teams represent ing as many living groups entered first-round competition yesterday in the williams intermural debate contest for prizes totaling 250 the topic for debate is re solved that the president of the united states should be se lected by a direct vote of the people the results of the indi vidual sessions will not be re vealed until the end of the third round the two teams with the highest number of points will enter the fin als dec 2 to compete for the 150 first prize second-place winner will receive 100 registration for the two-man de bate teams will continue until thursday from 8 a.m till 4 p.m at christmas-saucon hall competition is open to all undergraduates except previous first-place winners and students with intercollegiate debate experience williams offers 1,500 in prizes in essay contest fifteen prizes totaling 1,400 will be offered to competing seniors in the annual williams senior essay contest for papers in five fields of study subjects must be approved by nov 15 and essays are due april 15 , three prizes of 150 100 and 50 will be awarded in each of the fields of business administra tion english philosophy psy chology history government and international relations essays will be judged on excell ence in thought plan development argument and composition by jerry friedenheim joseph dunninger mental telepa thist of radio television and stage fame delighted more than 1,000 per sons who braved the snow storm friday night to attend the student concerts-lectures series at grace hall arriving one minute before he was scheduled to begin the pres entation dunninger made ev eryone forget the storm outside by telling of his seven hour trip from jersey city three hours of which were spent between eas ton and bethlehem he amazed his audience with tricks ranging from the production of a glassful of water from an ap parently empty velvet bag to the flawless reproduction of serial num bers of dollar bills in the hands of persons in the audience the man who has bewildered such eminent scientists as the late edison and steinmetz fascinated the audi ence toward the beginning of the program when he asked a young girl to choose a number before she chose the number 53 he wrote something on a slate and put it face down in full view of the audience he then opened a bethlehem tele phone dircetory to page 53 and a young boy from the audience point ed to a name on that page the gir read the name it was koch dun-j ninger then picked up the slate which had been put aside at the start and on it was written in large letters the name koch the mental telepathist who claimed that he doesn't have to do this for a living but i am too nervous to steal told his audi ence that he had his power since he was seven years old people cannot understand why when he goes into a restaurant he must ask for a menu or when in a ho tel why he must be told his room number he related he claimed that he is frequently bothered by someone on the phone who asks guess who midway through the performance he and the ushers distributed piece three afternoons each week from 4 to 6 on monday while other lehigh students are on the drill field or hit ting the books the bandsmen are in the band room rehearsing the music for their next show at 5 p.m the musicians lay aside their horns and move outside to taylor stadium where they walk through the for mations for the following saturday here is where the formations are finally worked out on a large scale before the rehearsal each . member is handed a poop sheet a mimeographed booklet of six or seven pages in which can be found the formations drawn up with the positions numbered as each band mem ber is numbered according to file and rank position it is easy for him to find himself on the charts wednesday is the next practice date unless 4 o'clock quizzes inter vene then the band has the first rehearsal where they play through the formations this practice is nc picnic for either director or player as the opening entrance to the field for the half-time is standard for al"t of this year's half-time performances the band is pretty sure of getting onto the field without too much trouble but there nine times out of ten : any similarity to a top-notch march ing band is unobservable men eith er march without playing buried deeply in their poopsheets march playing without the aid of the sheet and getting lost or just wander around aimlessly in other words it can be somewhat of a mess fortu nately however the show is a bit more intact on the second try prof schempf director of the band tries to take the men through both the pre-game and half-time shows at least twice on that second day of rehearsal of ten however the band finishes at six by moonlight see band page 5 by dick wallis the lehigh band's plan to use the boy scouts in this saturday's half time extravaganza is a new twist in the already colorful history of this university's brown and white marching organization in recent years the musicians have traveled to many points in the east and as far west as cle veland receiving the plaudits of thousands few however real ize th time and eifort put into a short pre-game and a six-and-a half minute half-time show many are critical of the band be cause its members are excused from such annoyances as monday after noon military drill periods and some physcial education classes those critics fail to realize that the time devoted to playing especially in the football season makes it impossible for a band member to attend those classes the band rehearsals and study too the band works out regularly volume 65 — number 13 meets carnegie tech for their 15th football game of the rivalry the parents of the students will meet with mem bers of the faculty for at least in many cases the first time the initial parent-faculty meeting will take place at a buffet luncheon to be held in the lower floor of grace hall from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m following that arrangements have been made to have the faculty mem bers sit with the students and their parents at the football game the faculty members have been urged to make arrangements for sitting in the proper sections so thai they may be with the parents when obtaining tickets to the game they should inform the athletic de partment of their intentions so they may be issued proper tickets in a letter to the faculty presi dent martin d whitaker suggested that the extent to
