howard j ziegler head of the philosophy department and pres ident of the lehigh chapter will be in charge of the initiation membership is offered each year to outstanding members of the senior class who have shown unusual ability in liberal arts studies however the lehigh by-laws permit the election of four engineering students to the society each year the newly elected members to the society are for strict rules enforcement by jerry friedenheim my job is to make men out of boys associate dean byron c hayes said this week and to get them to do well the job that they have come here to do when questioned on the rea son for the sudden enforce ment of social rules many of which had been ignored for sev eral years dean hayes answer ed a good rule in the book should be enforced the latest of the rules which dean hayes is enforcing is a rule which forbids the serving of beer or other alcoholic beverages on the sunday of houseparty first of all sunday is one day lawn and two rows lining the main walk in front of the alumni memo rial building they will comprise the largest gathering of boxwoods this side of virginia rain had delayed movement of the plants for two weeks but work was resumed last week when the trees were prepared for transporta tion at the estate according to j m brun yon kers n.y land architect in charge of the transfer between 20 and 25 men together with four trucks a flat depressed center trailer and a digging crane will be used to complete the operation within the next two weeks he noted that the trees vary in size from small ones of two or three tons to to close scl questionnaires dealing with the chaperone problem will be distribut ed to all fraternities and faculty members as a result of a motion passed at the ifc meeting monday night according to ifc president william j davis 53 the refusal of many professors to act as chaperones is at the present time the greatest social problem faced by the fraternities in the first form to be filled out by the fraternities the members will be asked to list their experiences with and requirements for chaper ones the purpose of the second ques tionnaire will be to find out which of the faculty members are willing to accept the responsibility of serv ing as chaperones they will also be asked for their views and grievances on the subject a profit of 877.51 for d7c weekend was announced at the meeting total expenses for the elliot lawrence phi betas to initiate 40 seniors arcadia decided wednesday to keep drown hall open for dancing on saturday and sunday of house party as suggested by dean byron c hayes action came when vice-pres ident edward dussinger 54 moved to have the building open from noon until midnight on saturday and from noon un til 11 p.m on sunday dussinger reported that many requests for such action had been received both by dean hayes and by the drown hall house committee present plans call for music to be piped into the first floor lounge and also outside of drown hall from wlrn to enable dancing on the ter lace which has not been done for some years dussinger said renovation of drown hall and es tablishing of an organizational set up to make the fullest utilization of drown hall at the lowest possible cost may take place this summer the arcadian reported according to arcadia's vice president president martin whitaker was favorably im pressed with a report submit tim bortz's orchestra native cos tumes a floor show crowning of the ball queen and prizes for the most original costumes will highlight the international ball tomorrow at 9 p.m in grace hall closing the one-day regional con ference of the cosmopolitan club the dance is open to the whole uni versity admission is 1.30 more than 100 students from colleges in this area are expect ed to attend the conference the see cosmo page 4 this year's scl series will close tonight amid the throbbing jazz of the dave brubeck quartet in grace hall at 8 p.m high among the selling composers brubeck had four of his numbers chosen by metronome magazine as the best jazz records of march in addition to composing he says his object is to incorporate classical music into jazz made up of brubeck paul desmond on alto sax ron crot ty on bass and lloyd davis on drums the quartet has recently been featured at birdland and the bandbox in new york and in storyville in boston tonight's program will feature such
