second straight win of the young season alex mccobd 123 pounds won the initial lehigh match as he de cisioned paul bedell of rutgers at 130 pounds jim mahoney turn ed in his second straight fall of the year as he won over the scarlet's ron scudder with a neatly executed head scissors in the second period ken faust of the brown and white wrestling at 137 pounds turn ed in the quickest fall of the eve ning as he topped bill bossert with a top body press in the initial period lehigh's determined and ag gressive bill carlisle was held to a standstill as he lost to fred futchko rutgers 6-1 the rutgers represen tative was warned for his stalling tactics but his strategy worked as he won the decision and gained the 2 dorm men demerited by congdon one frosh and one sophomore have been reprimanded and assessed two and three disciplinary demerits re spectively for taking dates and li quor illegally into the dormitories wray h congdon discipline com mittee chairman announced this week these students showed lack of judgment concern and responsibili ty states the report when they took such action without permission and without ascertaining certainly whether or not an evening party evaluation fire ruins couch garb at sigma phi fire damaged at least 200 worth of clothing and furniture in a base ment room of sigma phi fraternity early wednesday morning bill coles 53 jim kressler 53 and graduate student george p robinson 111 were trapped in the adjoining room by the fire which damaged a couch some clothes part of the wall a number of library books and three completed term papers no one was injured at 4 a.m peter hoyt 53 smelled smoke and called the bethlehem fire department which extinguished the blaze in a few minutes assistant chief hardigan attributed the fire to a for the universi ty as a whole instead of just for the fraternity group with unanimous faculty approval the faculty evaluation program will be conducted during the last two weeks of the semester by arcadia assisted by pledges of phi eta sig ma freshman honorary warren stevens 53 chairman of the program described the plan of the arcadia committee in charge as a chance for students to criti cize their instructors constructively thus enabling the instructor to ad just his course and teaching methods that they may conform with the de sires of the students forms providing for appraisal of the course and instructor will be issued to instructors who will select a student to conduct the evaluation during the first 15 minutes of the period rather than the last 20 as in past years formerly arcadia had mailed post cards to two students designated by the course instructor asking them to make necessary arrangements and to conduct the evaluation arcadia made the change to increase the ef ficiency of the system stevens urged freshmen partic ularly to give thoughtful considera tion to the form which he said will be sealed until final grades for the semester have been issued the forms need not be signed but stevens stressed that they are not gripe sheets but are for the benefit of fu ture students in the course course evaluation will be con ducted at the discretion of the in structor but since the instructor is the only one who ever sees the form it is to his advantage to hold the evalution arcadia declared 4 religion courses among 18 added by university desire of lehigh men to delve deeper into the study of religion was recognized by the university's committee on educational policy when it announced the inclusion of four new religion courses among the 18 addi tions to the curriculum according to dr george harmon chairman for the committee other course additions include five in poli tical science three each in psychol ogy and chemistry and one each in geology industrial engineering and mathematics increasing the courses offered by the religion department by almost half the new fields of study will in clude an introductory course one devoted to the study of the gospels a third dealing with the principles of christian ethics and a survey of the development of christianity in europe and america new offerings in the department of history and government will per tain to studies of democrcay civil rights history of political thought administrative law and law-making tests and measurements and group testing techniques will be the basis or the three new courses in the psy chology department to the science curriculum have been added two courses in physical chemistry and one in advanced bio chemistry as well as a geology course also a descriptive mineral ogy which will discuss the rock forming mineral families and their chemical properties has been added application of the theory of prob ability to statistics physics and bi ology will following a dinner at the house lambda chi alpha had movies turkey and presents from santa for 12 boys from the good shepherd home on tuesday night phi gamma delta held a party for 12 children chosen
