paget and jeff chandler new demerit system offers varied penalty under the new cumulative de merit system students will be dis ciplined according to the gravity of the offense rather than being subject to one of two punishments an extremely light punishment or a suspension for a serious offense as in the old system according to dean conffdon this point system has been set up by the university committee on discipline and will operate as fol lowes five cumulative demerits suspension for one semester six cumulative demerits suspension for one year eight cumulative de merits immediate suspension with loss of credit for the semes ter demerits will be cumulative over a student's entire period at lehigh they will not be stricken from the record even after the student has been penalized and readmitted to the university in cases of suspen sion for example a student accumu lating five demerits would be sus pended for one semester if after the period of suspension he re turns to school and receives one or two demerits he would incur another suspension this time for one year any other combination of accumulated demerits would see discipline page 6 lehigh university bethlehem pa friday november 14 1952 arcadia to investigate banning of collegian volume 64 — number 14 brown and white parking problem handed to beans roy beaver idc has kicked the much fumbled parking football right into the university's lap the final proposal for a dormitory parking solution has been sent to dean congdon's office tuesday night idc voted ta agree with most of the recent ar cadia proposals the council did not however go along with the idea of charging the students fees to park on campus feeling it would be impractical the dormitory council added proposals that 1 all parking lots be paved and lined by the university 2 that insurance shall be required on all cars in accordance with the pennsylvania state law and 3 university police shall enforce the program the clause saying that idc shall help in the enforcement of the program was struck out thus leaving it entirely up to the campus police the council agreed unanimously with arcadia to establish restricted parking areas in the dorm parking lots for use of upperclassmen only freshmen would be permitted to park in unrestricted areas a final clause in the pro posal stated that without ade quate enforcement this plan is un workable and we feel that an out right restriction of freshman cars would then be the only solution carradine emotes tonight in grace see arcadia page 4 arcadia voted wednesday to re quest the student activities com mittee to investigate the ban from all music activities recently im posed by the music department on the former leader of the collegians dance band for ungentlemanly conduct treasurer mai gross who presented the motion said the fa culty advisers may be exercising their rights to an undesirable ex tent he said there was some question as to whether the advis ers could ban the leader bernie argyle 53 from music groups other than the combined music clubs the brown and white learned monday that a dance orchestra is included in the constitution of the combined music clubs as a member section six article two of the by-laws reads any mem ber may be dropped from the clubs for conduct unbecoming a gentleman by the faculty director or the student director the other members of the group are the glee club and symphony orchestra vice-president tom maccabe argued that arcadia should have been informed of the facts of the case and complained that the stu dent activities committee a stu dent-faculty committee only re veals limited information about its proceedings the committee's meetings like those of all student faculty committees are closed see editorial p 2 the motion passed however eight to one with two abstaining arcadia president john arnesen 33 is shown above signing the blank piece of paper which eventually will carry the terms of the pence pact chaillot the twentieth cen tury and the leading lady also included in this presenta tion will be scenes from winter set les miserables and jesse james carradine has appeared in many other leading motion pic tures students will be admitted with their id cards the price of ad mission for faculty members le high university employees and guests of lehigh students will be i in a move designed to preserve the long tradition of friendly ri valry between lafayette college and lehigh the annual peace pact was renewed wednesday by stu dent council members of both in stitutions although the action has been customary in recent years a new twist came up at the meeting held on the lafayette campus this year the lafayette members of the stu third round monday for williams debaters semi-finalists in the 200 wil liams prize debate contest will be announced monday after the third round dwight freshley coach of debate and administrator of the contest said wednesday the first two rounds were held nov 3 and 10 and the win ners of the first three rounds will go to the eliminations the first place team will receive 120 and the second place team will get the remaining 80 faculty judges for the first three rounds are profs fred armstrong ray armstrong roy cowherd a roy eckhardt frank fornoff a c zettlemoyer dean congdon the topic being debated is see debate page 5 see beaver page 6 eager beaver train station he boards 6:45 to bethlehem 8:05 roy has covered 31 miles arrives 8:30 reaches packard lab after walk from station has half-hour to catch breath before class 9-12 classes noon eat study 1-4 p.m lab 4-4:30 dashes to station 4:30 boards train to lansdale 6:45 home 6:45-7:30 eats dinner during family hour the only time other than breakfast that all five mem bers are together 7:30-12 roy plays with kids puts kids to bed goes off to study till midnight midnigrht work finished or not roy hits the sack 5:45 a.m ratrace begins again dent council were caught with their resolutions down and had no copy of the pact ready to be sign ed since both mai gross 54 and john arnesen 53 president and treasurer of lehigh's student rep resentative body had meetings back on this campus both signed a blank piece of paper to be filled in and mailed to them when kidded about the danger of the lafayette en filling in anything but a peace pact on the blank piece of paper arnesen commented well there's such a thing as trust you know his expression remained a bit wor ried however the resolution practically a du plicate of one made with muhlen berg college two weeks ago reads as follows see pact pagre
