She succeeds Jocelyn Beck who resigned in March. The announcement was made at an April 12, 1995, press conference by Joe Sterrett, Lehigh's Director of Athletics. "Sue Troyan has been one of our most successful coaches over the past several years," Sterrett said. "She has proven her abilities to build a program from the ground up. She knows our basketball student-athletes and the challenges we face with that program. Sue has earned the opportunity to step up to those challenges." Troyan, who this past year served as head softball coach and director of athletics program budgets, will relinquish those duties effective July 1, 1995. "I'm extremely excited about the challenge of overseeing the women's basketball program," Troyan said. "This has been a lifelong goal of mine to coach basketball at the Division I level and I'm confident that with hard work, dedication and enthusiasm Lehigh can become one of the top programs in the Patriot League." As head softball coach, Troyan totally rebuilt a program which finished 7-30 prior to her appointment. Now in her fifth year as mentor, Troyan has recorded a 109-87-1 record. The Engineers have won back-to-back Patriot League Championships and lastyear Troyan was named the league's Coach- of-the-Year. Prior to moving into her administrative role as Director of Athletics Program Budgets last year, Troyan spent six seasons as assistant basketball coach at Lehigh. She served as a graduate assistant coach in her first two years at Lehigh before becoming Lehigh's first full-time women's basketball assistant in 1990. A 1988 graduate of Dickinson College, Troyan received her B.A. degree in Economics. She re- Sue Troyan was the assistant women's basketball coach from1990-94. At Dickinson, Troyan was a four year athlete in both track and basketball. On the court, Troyan was voted the team's most valuable player following the 1988 season. She was elected team captain her senior year and made the All-MAC (Middle Atlantic Conference) first team as well as second team All-ECAC. In track, Troyan was a three-time All-American. Lehigh finished with a 3-24 overall record last year, 2-12 in the Patriot League. Following the completion of the softball season, Fran Troyan will assume the duties of head softball coach. "Fran Troyan has been an integral part of our softball success, even as a volunteer assistant," Sterrett said. "The continuity he will provide us as the head coach is exciting. He has a great rapport with our student- athletes, a solid background in coaching and the full confidence of our staff and student- athletes." Troyan has worked with the softball team as a volunteer assistant for the past five years. A1986 graduate of Allegheny College, he received his Bachelor's degree in International Studies. He later received his law degree from The Dickinson College School of Law in 1989. At Allegheny, Troyan competed intercollegiately in both baseball and basketball. He was an Academic All-American shortstop in 1985 and the First-Team All- North Coast Atlantic Conference shortstop in 1985 and '86. While studying for his law degree at Dickinson, he served as an assistant basketball coach for two years. "Having been a part ofthe softball program for many years, I'm looking forward to continuing the recent tradition of success that has been established," Troyan said. Lisa Dorward will continue to serve in her role as pitching coach. The Engineer softball team currently features six players from the Lehigh Valley.
