By ROB SCHMIDT South Mountaineer Editor Shortly after the foghad lifted on the Goodman Campus on Saturdaymorning,aseaofbluecouldbe seen comingthroughthe shoot ofLehigh's cross country course. It wasn't an optical illusion, however it was a tidal wave ofPenn State runners, all seven in fact, fimshing inthetop20. The Nittany Lions grabbed thefirst, third, andfourthspots ontheirwaytoafirstplacescoreof31, 97 points in front of second place Pennsylvania. HostLehigh finished 12thinthe22-teamfield. Senior Matt Van Lieropled the Engineersplacing31st outof 145 runners withatime of32:28.9. Junior Nick Albrecht followed, placing41stwithatimeof32:47.7. Junior Rob Christie(50th), sophomore Matt Rosetti (95th),senior Stephen Watchel(114),andjuniorChris Foutz (127th)rounded outthe Lehigh finishers, giving theEngineers331points. Senior Nittany IionBobHamerwastherace's overaUvWnnerwithatinieof30:54.7,followedbyIona's Martin McCarthy, a-junior, 10 seconds later. Penn finished second as a team with a score of 128 and one runner, senior Terry McLean (6th),inthe top 10. James Madison rounded outthe top three witha score of 147. Providence Collegeran away with the women's competition, claimingthree ofthe topfive places. Sophomore MarieMcMahonled the Lady Friars, finishingfirstoverallwithatimeofl7:08.0onthe5k course. Teammate Natalie Davey, asenior,followedher across thefinishline 17 seconds later. FreshmanMaria McCambridgeplaced fifth tohelptheLady Friars to their overall score of 26. The Engineers placed 17thinthe24-teamfield. Freshman MichelleDippolito was the topLehigh finisherwith atime of 19:15.5, which placed her 59th out ofthe field of 161runners. JuniorSusanneAllex was thenext Engineer across the line withatimeof 19:38.0, goodenoughfor 83rd place. FreshmanStecyImlerwasI^Mgh'sthirdfinisher,at 100th place withatimeof 19:58.7.
