The Bethlehem station will carry all Engineers games, home and away, including the 1991 Patriot League championship tournament at Stabler Center. Mick Moninghoff will handle the play-byplay while former Lehigh star Mike Polaha '87 will provide color commentary. In addition, WFMZ-TV, Channel 69 in Allentown, will air six games, five men's and one women's. The television schedule includes the season opener, November 22 versus Harvard, January 13 at Penn, February 4 at Fordham and February 26 at Lafayette. Both ends of the Jan. 25 home doubleheader against archrival Lafayette will be shown. The first show is slated for December 13, with the weekly shows beginning January 10. WINTER SPORTS UNDERWAY — Lehigh's winter sports season officially got underway last Saturday as the men's and women's swim teams traveled to Colgate to compete in the Patriot League Relays. The men's and women's basketball teams kick off their seasons with a doubleheader November 22. Men's and women's indoor track kick off their season December 7th with the Middle Atlantic TAC Meet. Wrestling begins its season a bit sooner, as Coach Tom Hutchinson's squad travels to the Trenton Slate Tournament this Sunday, November 10. For more on Lehigh wrestling '91-92, see preview, page 3. DIVERS TAKE HONORS — The Lehigh men's and women's diving" squads opened their seasons October 26 at the University of Delaware diving invitational and turned in some impressive results. Sophomore Angela Palma finished first in the one and three- meter events, while classmate NickieEngles placed sixth in the one-meter and tenth in the three-meter dive for the Lehigh women. Engineers blow by the Tribe A new "Look" offense propels 41-37 win By STEVE MEST South Mountaineer Editor Take away, and Lehigh shall find a way. Forced to play without tailback Larry Arico and receiver Rich Clark, Lehigh showed amazing resiliency — and depth at key positions—in running over William and Mary 41 -37 Saturday at Goodman Stadium for its seventh victory of the 1991 season. With the win, the 20th-ranked Engineers (7-1) accomplished two moral v ictories: they defeated the Tribe for the first time in eight tries, and they shook off ghosts lingering from the previous week's bitter loss to Holy Cross. Any concerns over the mental state of Lehigh following the oh-so-close loss to the Crusaders were erased without a trace by Lehigh's performance Saturday. Offensive standards were again threatened by Lehigh head coach Hank Small's brilliant play-calling, the arm of senior quarterback Glenn Kempa and multi- talented tailback Mark Lookenbill. Lookenbill, again subbing for Arico who is out with a hip pointer sustained against Holy Cross, tore through the Tribe defense for 345 yards in total offense and four touchdowns, the four scores the most by a Patriot League player in 1991. The junior from Littlestown, PA rushed 34 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown and was named ECAC and Patriot League Offensive Player of the week. Kempa, the third-ranked passer in Division I-AA coming into the game, again put up mind boggling statistics, completing 34 of 44 passes for 421 yards ECAC and Patriot League Player of the Week Mark Lookenbill hurdles through the William and Mary line for the first of his four touchdowns in Lehigh's 41-37 win Saturday at Goodman Stadium. Photo by Joe Ryan and three touchdowns. Kempa's three scoring passes moved his season total to 26, tying the Lehigh record set by Todd Brunner in 1989. Kempa has 2,762 yards passing on the year. Amazingly, Kempa played much of the game hurt, his shoulder wrapped due to a hit by a Tribe defensive lineman in the second quarter. "That," Small said of Kempa, "was one of the most amazing performances I've seen since I've been coaching." Senior wideout Horace Hamm also had another standout performance, hooking up with Kempa 11 times for 168 yards as well as consecutive touchdowns, of 37 and 14 yard's, in the third quarter which put Lehigh ahead to stay. All this without Arico and Clark, two men who had helped pace Lehigh offensively for the first five games of the year. "I can't say enough about these kids," Small said. This is without a doubt the finest win we've had, and coming back after last week and with all the injuries...their hearts are so big, the desire so great — I'm j ust so proud to be arou nd them." William and Mary (4-5) took a 16-14 lead at 12:51 of the third quarter on a Robert Green two- yard touchdown run. But Lehigh punter Craig Melograno quickly swung the momentum back in Lehigh's favor when he converted a fake punt attempt on fourth down two minutes later. His 21-yard run gave Lehigh a first down and on the ensuing play, Kempa hit Hamm for a 37-yard touchdown and Lehigh regained the lead at 10:20. Hamm and Kempa again connected with 2:51 left in the third quarter, this time for 14 yards on the score, and the Engineers took a 27- 16 lead. In the fourth quarter, the teams basically swapped touchdowns.
