The dinner, to be held in Packer Hall-University Center at 6 p.m., will be the highlight of BEYC activities during the "Salute to Liberty" reunion June 5-8. Other Reunion Highlights Include •Reception and buffet dinner with retired and active faculty members *Alumni College events: Asa Packer Mansion Tour; Historic Bethlehem Tour; Mini-College Seminars 'Class Ice breakers 'Champaign Reception/Awards Dinner Dance "Annual Meeting and Breakfast "Spouses' breakfast program •Sixth Alumni 5,000-Meter Fun Run *Presentation-Ben Franklin & CAD-CAM programs "Update on athletics at the Coaches' Corner "All-class Lunch "Parade of Classes "Back Every Year Club and 50 Dinner Diekel, Engelbert and Burley Head Long List The following is a list of the winners of athletic awards for 1985-86. The Weaver, Hall Foundation, ECAC, Nolan, Steckbeck, Beta Theta Pi, Hurley and Zettlemoyer awards were presented at a special luncheon May 5. Bobby Weaver Award, "to a member of the Lehigh University family who has exemplified personal qualities of courage, determination and perserverance in combination with extraordinary athletic talent. The recipient has distinguished himself in performance and in selection to the highest honors in his sport during the year 1985." Won by Darryl Burley '83. Burley received his undergraduate Lehigh degree in 1983 and a master's degree in 1985. He is eminently qualified to receive the inaugural Bobby Weaver Award as the 1985 136.5-pound U.S. national freestyle wrestling champion. As an undergraduate, Burley distinguished himself as few collegiate athletes ever have. A two-time NCAA champion, he is one of a few men to reach the national finals four times. He is one of six men to win four EIWA titles. He compiled a career record of 94-5-1 and was chosen Wrestler of the Year in 1982-83 by .4mcin.nr Wrenttirig Hen-*. As a freshman he won the J. Daniel Nolan Award, and as a senior he won the Hall Foundation Award. Hall Foundation Award, sponsored by John Newton Hall '30. to the most outstanding senior male athlete. Won by Paul Diekel '86 (Whitehall. N.Y.). Diekel took his place this season among the greats of Lehigh wrestling. He is one of an elite group of 11 Lehigh men to PAUL DIEKEL achieve All-America status three or more times, with NCAA finishes of sixth, third and fifth place. He is also one of just a dozen Lehigh wrestlers to win three or more EIWA titles. His overall career record of 77-9, including 29-3 last season and 29-2 in 1984-85, puts him in ninth place on the Lehigh list of total career wins. Hall Foundation Award, sponsored by John Newton Hall '30, to the most outstanding senior female athlete. Won by Cathy Engelbert '86 (Collingswood, N.J.). Engelbert capped a stellar career in basketball and See coupon on page two CATHY ENGELBERT lacrosse with fabulous campaigns in both sports in 1985-86. She led the lacrosse team in scoring with 29-13-42 and was named to the ECC all-star team. She enjoyed an equally fine season last year in helping lead Lehigh to its first ECC lax title. On the basketball court. Engelbert. a co-captain, was voted MVP of the '86 ECC tournament, in which the Engineers capped a 24-4 season by winning the conference title, crushing Bucknell. Rider and Delaware on the way to the crown. Eastern College Athletic Converence (ECAC) Award for outstanding scholarship and athletic prowess by a man. Won by Eric Galcher '86 (Colts Neck. N.J.). A dean's-list student in industrial engineering, Galcher has been solidly dependable and richly successful as a mainstay of the tennis team for four years. He is a three-time ECC singles champion, winning crowns in 1983, 1984 and this year. He has served as co-captain and played at the No. 1 position for two years. In '84, when he won ECC titles in both singles and doubles he led his team to the conference championship. His overall career mark in singles is 62 wins, 19 losses. Off the court he is scholarship chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha. Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Award for outstanding scholarship and athletic prowess by a woman. Won by Mary Ann Way '86 (Phoenixville, Pa.). A dean's-list student in mechanical engineering, Way was voted her team's MVP this year. She was Lehigh's most consistent performer and one of the best defensive players in the ECC. The importance of her contributions can be measured by the team's success, winning 45, losing just 23, with two ties, winning two ECC titles and attaining the championship game three times. Off the field. Way is secretary of Gamma Phi Beta, and is the winner of the Wilbur Mathematics Prize and the Richard K. Melon Scholarship. J. Daniel Nolan Award, sponsored by Sigma Nu, to the most outstanding freshman male athlete. Won by Lee Blum '89 (Staten Island, N.Y.). Blum stepped into the starting football backfield and made a significant LEE BLUM impact, leading the team's rushers with 714 yards and seven touchdowns on 176 attempts. It was the second-best total by a Lehigh man of any class in the past decade. His most outstanding performance came at Bucknell, where he gained 189 yards, best showing by a Lehigh rusher since 1973. and he also gained 100 yards against Rhode Island. In addition to leading the team in rushing, Blum caught 21 passes for 182 yards, placing fourth on the squad. John S. Steckbeck Award, sponsored by Robert Kaufman '68, to the most outstanding freshman female athlete. Won by Gail Jacobs '89 (Boca Raton. Fla.). Now that Jacobs has arrived. Lehigh women's swimming will GAlL JACOBS never be the same. The list of her accomplishments is overwhelming. During the dual- meet season. Gail swam nine of the 14 individual events. In all nine she set Lehigh rerords. She finished first in 27 of the 28 individual races she swam, placing second once. Swimming the maximum-allowed four individual events at the ECC championship meet. Jacobs won four ECC titles, setting conference records in all four events. And in each race her margin of victory was greater than three seconds. Beta Theta Pi Cup for all around achievement by a senior male. Won by Mike Androlewicz '86 (Turnersville. N.J.). A three-year letterman. Androlewicz enjoyed a very' successful season this year as captain and team leader. Asked by his coach to switch positions (Continued on Page 2)
