VOL. 25 — No. 13 JANUARY 11, 1983 BETHLEHEM, PA. Cagers (5-3) Win Over Loyola Wrestlers Head Into Midwest 2 Grapplers Still Unbeaten Darryl Burley and Pete Schuyler emerged as Lehigh's only undefeated wrestlers last week following close losses to powerful Northern Iowa, 23-22, and Iowa State, 26-17. The Engineers departed Monday for Cleveland, the first stop on a midwestern tour in which they'll meet Cleveland State, Wisconsin and Michigan with hopes of beefing up a 1-3 dual meet mark. Since opening with a 28-9 victory over Wilkes the Lehigh matmen have seen nothing but Iowa opposition, dropping a 24- 20 decision to the University of Iowa before last week's setbacks. All three of the losses came late in the program after highly- respectable showings, but they're defeats, and climbing back above .500 is the immediate objective. This raised the Engineers' record to 5-and-3 as they move into the major portion of their schedule. Earlier in the week they were upset at Susquehanna, 75-55. Collins, sidelined with an infected toe, didn't even suit up for the Loyola contest. His duties were shared by 6-9 junior Terry Moran, of Baltimore, and 6-7 freshman Carl Chrabascz of Ware, Mass. Chrabascz sank 13 points and turned in seven rebounds. Moran, who started the game at center, had six points and three boards. Lehigh's leader during the triumph over the Greyhounds was slick-shooting guard Tom Pauley of Phoenixville, Pa., with 15 points. Pauley also managed five rebounds. Forward Rick Kamin, of Churchville, Pa., added 10 points and guard Fred Ketcho, of Wood-Ridge, N.J., had nine. Coach Brian Hill's squad broke fast, taking an early 6-0 lead on field goals by Ketcho (two) and Pauley, and remaining out front the entire contest. Moran scored, between a pair of PETE SCHUYLER DARRYL BURLEY Loyola baskets, and Kamin then turned in a three-point play and a second field goal—for a quick 5-point burst—as the Engineers built a 15-4 advantage in the first 7:45 of the half. Another three-point play, this one by Chrabascz, helped Lehigh extend this margin to 24- 10 before Loyola crept back into contention late in the half with a string of free throw conversions while the Engineers were missing from the foul line. It was 28- 23 at the intermission. Kamin and Ketcho scored early in the second half, around a Greyhound deuce, and Chra- bascz's second three-point play of the night gave the Engineers a 35-25 cushion. Midway through the half the Hounds made their most serious bid, notching six straight points to cut the Lehigh lead to 42-38, but the Engineers came back with a burst of their own and had no further difficulty. Lehigh had five three-point plays, the two by Chrabascz and one apiece by Kamin, Pauley and Paul Wickman, the latter of Somerset, N.J. Over the last four minutes the Engineers out- scored the visitors, 13-4, to open up their final margin. LEHIGH Wickman 2-1-2-5.
