Vol. 25 — No. 9 NOVEMBER 16, 1982 BETHLEHEM, PA. Lehigh Ends East Stroudsburg Streak, Faces Lafayette Next 50-Gamers Will Meet Eleven members of Lehigh's 50-Game Club, alumni who have seen 50 or more Lehigh- Lafayette football games, will be honored Friday, Nov. 19, at a dinner in the Sinn Room of the University Center. The entire membership of the club has seen 1,066 of the games. Sam Connor, Lehigh director of public information, will offer remarks on the history of the game and the tradition surrounding this most-played series in college football. The teams meet for the 118th time Nov. 20 at Easton. Jim Bridg- man, Alumni Association national president, will welcome the guests. Lehigh's first winning football season was in 1886 when the Engineers (4-2-2) defeated Dickinson, Stevens, Pennsylvania and Haverford. Lehigh-Lafayette Special Events Sixteen Lehigh alumni groups, in 12 states across the nation, will gather Saturday for a special radio broadcast of the Lehigh-Lafayette football game. The kickoff is scheduled for noon, Eastern Standard Time. This will be the 118th meeting of the neighboring rivals in college football's most-played rivalry. All tickets have been sold. The special alumni network, which will hear an account of the contest broadcast over WLVR-FM, the Lehigh radio outlet, includes three sites in California, two each in Texas and Ohio, and single spots in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Georgia and Indiana. Traditional pre-game meetings also are scheduled by Lehigh alumni clubs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Guest speaker John (Continued on Page 2) 25-7 Win Over Warriors Sets Stage For 118th Clash Lehigh footballers ended East Stroudsburg's seven-game winning streak last week before 8,500 fans in Taylor Stadium, 25- 7, and set the stage for Saturday's 118th meeting against archrival Lafayette. The teams clash at Fisher Field, on the Leopard campus, with the Engineers (4-5) one victory away from escaping their first losing season since 1972. Lafayette (6-3) warmed up for the finale with a 36-3 rout of Kutztown. East Stroudsburg, which went against Lehigh, ranked first in the Lambert Plaque race for Div. 2 entries, lost for only the second time in 10 starts. The Warriors meet Edinboro this weekend for the Pa. State Conference championship. They put up a strong battle for one half but following the intermission Lehigh's superior size and depth took its toll. The Engineers extended a 13-7 halftime margin to 25-7 with touchdowns the first two times they had the ball in the third quarter. The Engineers used two quarterbacks with Marty Horn of Short Hills, N.J., guiding the team to a pair of touchdowns in the opening half and Tony Semler, of Allentown, Pa., matching that production after the intermissionn. Horn completed six of 12 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown, and didn't have a (Continued on Page 2) Traditional Features Two major Lehigh Home Club events are scheduled as part of Lehigh-Lafayette Weekend. Maennerchor Night will be held Friday, 11/19, in Hotel Bethlehem beginning at 9 p.m. This is an "old-fashioned Bavarian Test" with a fully costumed 5-piece German band. $4 per person. A Home Club Huddle, following the game, is slated for Rathbone Hall on the Lehigh campus beginning at 5 p.m. A donation will be accepted at the door.
