Stall Call Decides Last Dual Meet Vol. 23 — No. 21 FEBRUARY 24, 1981 BETHLEHEM, PA. Cagers 12-10 After Victories Over Laf ayette, Delaware 24-22 Loss To Orange; EIWAs Next A highly-controversial disqualification, with only eight seconds remaining in the final bout of the program, decided Lehigh's last dual wrestling meet of the season Saturday as the Engineers were edged by Syracuse, 24-22, before 5,000 fans in Stabler Center. Referee Spike Israel disqualified heavyweight Drew Keiser of the Engineers on accumulated stalling points as he EIWA Schedule Schedule of events for the EIWA tournament at Jadwin Gymnasium, Princeton University: Saturday, Feb. 28 — 11 a.m., preliminaries; 6 p.m., quarter-finals; Sunday, March 1 — 11 a.m., semi-finals and start of consolations; 5:30 p.m., consolation finals; 7 p.m., championship finals. engaged in a shoving match with Mike Rotunda of the Orange. Rotunda also was at the stalling point limit and a double disqualification wouldn't have surprised anyone. Both men were on their feet, leaning against each other, when the decision was made. With only those eight seconds remaining, and Rotunda leading 10-8, he figured to pick up a routine decision which would've left Syracuse on the short end of a 22-21 score. The disqualification provided three bonus points and the Orange won at Bethlehem for the first time since 1952. Lehigh ended its regular schedule with a 10-4, Syracuse is 17- 1, and they expect to join Navy in a battle for first place in the upcoming EIWA Tournament Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28 and Mar. 1, at Princeton. It was the first victory over the Leopards in men's basketball since 1974, snapping a 14- game Leopard winning streak in the series. Lehigh took Lafayette 68-62 on Wednesday and followed with its triumph over Delaware, 61- 59, on Saturday. The St. Joe's loss, in Philadelphia, was by a 74-47 margin. The Engineers (12-10) have two regularly-scheduled contests, and at least one conference playoff game, remaining. A triumph in either of the games this week will clinch the team's first winning campaign since 1968. Coach Brian Hill, who has been relying heavily on his bench all season, went that route again and received major dividends from reserves Rick Coppola of Livingston, N.J., Paul Hanks of Warminster, Pa., and Jeff Campisi of Essex Fells, N.J., all seniors.
