Vol. 23 — No. 8 NOVEMBER 4, 1980 BETHLEHEM, PA. Second Half Surge Gives Lehigh Victory, 31-14 Only Three Undefeated 1 -AA Teams Div. 1-AA football rankings were scrambled last weekend and there are sure to be significant changes when the weekly poll is released Tuesday afternoon. Murray State,Ky., the national leader, was upset 24- 14 by 1979 national champion Eastern Kentucky, which went into action tied for the No. 10 position. South Carolina State, which had been deadlocked with Murray for first place, won 59-7 over Morris Brown. Lehigh (No. 3) defeated James Madison, 31-14, and Western Kentucky (No. 4) won 17-7 over Morehead State. Masachusetts (tied for No. 10) upset Connecticut (No. 5) by a 39-21 margin. Only other ranked eastern entries are Boston U (No. 7) which won 38-22 over VMI, and Delaware (No. 9) which won 17- 7 over Villanova. Only three 1-AA teams still are undefeated, the list including South Carolina State, 9-0, Western Kentucky, 8-0, and Lehigh, 6-0-2. An NCAA selection committee will pick one team from each region (East, West and South) plus one at-large entry for postseason play starting Dec. 13. The championship finale is Dec. 20 in the Camellia Bowl at Sacramento, Calif. Games Dec. 13 will be played on campus. 1950 Team Returning Members of the 1950 squad, Lehigh's only unbeaten football team, will be special guests at Saturday's game, returning to campus on the 30th anniversary of their feat. Bill Leckonby, director of athletics at the University since 1962, was head coach of the 1950 sqttad. He and former players are to attend a special reception and luncheon at the UC prior to the Rhode Island game.
