No Spring Finale For Grid Squad Pts. The Lehigh football squad, forced indoors for practice because of the . inclement weather, ends its spring session Wednesday, Mar. 22: The "Brown vs. White" in- trasquad game scheduled for Sunday, Mar. 19, was cancelled. The Engineers, reigning NCAA Div. II National Football Champs, open their ft-game 1978 schedule on Sept. 9 against West Chester State in Taylor Stadium. Other home games feature Colgate, Delaware, Davidson, > Bucknell, and C.W. Post. Road games will'be against Slippery Rock State, Penn, VMI, Maine and Lafayette. "It was disappointing," Coach John Whitehead said. "But what can you do about the weather? Nothing. We had more snow than seemed possible. We held spring drills earlier last year and didn't have these problems' "We didn't waste any time, though," he continued. "Fortunately we had a field house in which we got in a lot of work and we were able to maintain a reasonable schedule." Lehigh has 29 returning letter- winners from the championship squad but three of j them, Ail- American wide receiver Steve Kreider of Reading, Pa., linebacker Jim McCormick of Millville, N.J., and placekicker Ken Wood of Pennington, N.J., were excused from spring drills. They were also working in the field house, but with the varsity baseball team, and aren't scheduled to rejoin the grid squad (Continued on Page 2) 1—Iowa 94.5 2—Iowa St. ..' 94. 3—Oklahoma St 86.25 4—Wisconsin' 77.25 5—Oklahoma' 52.25 6—Brigham Young 41.5 7—LEHIGH. 37.5 8—Oregon St.' 33.25 9—CalPoly,SLO 32.5 10—Michigan.' 29.25 THE SECOND TEN 11—Syracuse 27. 12—Arizona St' 26.75 13—Ohio U... 24.75 14—Montclair St 22. 15—Princeton 21.75 16—Penn St 19.25 17—Florida 17.5 18-LSU 16. 19—Notre Dame 15.5 20—KentSt 13. Brown, eliminated from the championship round by Daryl Monasmith of Oklahoma State in the quarter-finals, fought back and eventually beat the same man in a consolation final for third place, 5-3. The first and third place finishes enabled the Engineers to make the National Top Ten for the fourth straight year. Lehigh was seventh with 37.5 points, the same position Coach Thad Turner's squad held last winter. In 1975 and 1976 the Engineers were fifth. This season's performance in the Nationals was noteworthy because it followed a campaign in which the team had to struggle to post a winning record (9-7) and relinquished the EIWA team (Continued on Page 2 LU Tourney Performances BASTIANELLI—118 Glenn, Iowa 4-7 L (Consolations) Ely, Hofstra 4-2W Orme,BYU 1-11 L KILRAIN—167 Evans, Washington 7-5 W Weir, Jn.
