LU Raps Lafayette In Finale Lehigh closed out its sixth consecutive winning football season last Saturday with a 23-15 victory over Lafayette before 17,000 fans at Fisher Field, Faston. The Engineers posted eight victories against three defeats while the Leopards ended with a 1-7 mark. Quarterback Rich Andres, of Millville, N.J., fired touchdown passes of eight and 15 yards to split end Steve Kreider, of Reading, Pa., defensive back Keith Conley of Rockville, Md., returned an intercepted pass 45 vards for a score and Ted Iobst of Fmmaus, Pa., kicked a 38-yard field goal and two extra points. Kreider, who caught six passes for 65 yards and his pair of TDs, was winner of the 1978 Most Outstanding Player trophy as Engineers Lose Bid For Playoffs Lehigh has lost out in its bid to represent the East in this year's first NCAA Div. 1-AA championship playoffs. The NCAA announced Nov. 21 that Massachusetts (7-3 and champion of the Yankee Conference) had been selected as the eastern entry over the Engineers (8-3). In first round games Dec. 9 Massachusetts will play at undefeated Nevada- Reno and Jackson, Miss., State will host a game against an at-large team to be named Dec. 3. The telecasts will be originated by WLVT-TV Channel 39, of Bethlehem, Pa., and additional channels may be added. The U.S. Army Reserve is underwriting a series of nine one- hour highlight shows, each including a brief mat clinic supervised by coaches Thad Turner of Lehigh and Ron Pifer of the U.S. Military Academy. They will feature Lehigh in action against Rhode Island, Iowa, Slippery Rock, LSU, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Navy, Springfield and Syracuse. Some of these channels, in cluding Ch. 39 of Bethlehem, will carry all of the meets in their entirety. Others will feature the edited, one-hour version. WLVT-TV, Channel 39, also will feature the title round of the 1979 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Assn. championships.
