Brown Sets Point Record Lehigh's surging basketball team won the game it needed to win Saturday night, upsetting Delaware 85-82 to stay in the thick of the race for western division honors in the East Coast Conference. The victory, before an enthusiastic crowd of rooters in Grace Hall, completed another fine week for the Engineers in which they defeated Muhlenberg, 68-60, and dropped an ECC test to Lafayette, 91-80, before bouncing back to stun the Blue Hens. Delaware toppled out of a first- place tie in the conference scramble as Lehigh, avenging a 73-69 loss at Newark, Del., Jan. 26, turned in one of its finest performances in years. The Engineers jumped off to a sizeable lead, fought off several Delaware counter-attacks in the second half, and won impressively. Coach Brian Hill's young squad shot 54 per cent from the floor, canning 35 of 64 field goal attempts, with a well-balanced offense led by junior forward Ray Green of Washington, D.C., 17 points and 10 rebounds; junior guard Ken Clifford of Scotch Plains, N.J., 16 points, forward Jeff Vandemark of Mahwaw, N.J., 12 points, and sophomore guard Bill Griffin of Scotch Plains, N.J., 11 points. Vandemark is one of three freshmen Hill's using off the bench with excellent results. The others are guard Frank Hillman of Montclair, N.J., eight points against the Hens, and forward Brian Camperson of Haddonfield, N.J., six points. Rounding out Lehigh's top eight are starting center Paul Brandenburg, of Iselin, N.J., and forward Charlie Brown of Morristown, N.J., senior co- captains. Brown, the team's seasonal scoring leader, was held to only seven points by Delaware but he (Continued on Page 2) EAST COAST CONFERENCE Western Division W L PC Lafayette 5 1 .833 LEHIGH 4 2 .667 Bucknell 4 2 .667 Delaware 4 2 .667 Rider 1 5 .167 W.Chester 0 6 .000 Tuesday—Delaware at Lafayette.
