Cal-Davis, which had won its last 20 in a row at home over a four-year period, and was 11-0 for the 1977 season, had these streaks shattered during an offensive show in which the teams combined for 69 points and 884 yards. The Engineers' offensive forward wall took charge, especially during the second half, clearing the way for perhaps the team's most impressive ground display of the season. Running backs Mike Ford of Kansas City, Mo., Lennie Daniels of Cox- sackie, N.Y., and Dave Aprill of Fords, N.J., ran hard behind good openings and quarterback Mike Rieker had adequate protection as he set to throw. Lehigh was able to maintain the kind of ball control it needed to work time off the clock and keep the ball away from an explosive Cal-Davis team which kept bouncing back all day. Leaders in this offensive line effort were tight end Don Van Orden of Hawthorne, N.J., tackles Dave Melone of Weston, Mass., and Andy Vandergrift, guards Jim Schulze of Marietta, Ga., and Tom Stine of Or- wigsburg.
