MIKE RIEKER (left) and STEVE KREIDER NCAA Division 2 Notional Championship Football Playoffs SEMI-FINAL ROUND, Saturday, Dec 3 LEHIGH 10-2 at the Univ. of California, Davis 11-0 (1 p.m. EST) North Dakota State 9-1-1 at Jacksonville, Ala., State 10-2. QUARTER-FINAL ROUND, Saturday, Nov. 26 LEHIGH 30, Massachusetts 23; N. Dakota St. 20, Northern Michigan 6; Cal-Davis 34, Bethune-Cookman 16; Jacksonville St. 35, Northern Arizona 0. Saturday's winners meet Dec. 10 in the Pioneer Bowl at Wichita Falls, Tex., for the Div. 2 national football championship. ABC- TV Witt Feature Game ABC-TV will feature the contest between Lehigh and Cal-Davis as its eastern regional 1 p.m. game Saturday, Dec. 3, the first part of its Saturday doubleheader. It will be shown through out the eastern section of the nation, on the coast and in the Pacific northwest. Check your ABC-TV program listings. Only Channel 6 of Philadelphia, which is committed to the Div. Ill national championship finale between Widener and Wabash, won't show the Lehigh game. Channel 7, New York City, will be one of the stations featuring it. Bill Fleming will handle the play-by-play and Ara Parsegian will handle the color commentary. Rieker, Kreider Sparkle Quarterback Mike Rieker and split end Steve Kreider, the most productive one-two punch in college football, blitzed Massachusetts with a four-touchdown aerial barrage last Saturday as Lehigh registered a 30-23 triumph in the NCAA Div. II football playoffs. Rieker (Mr. Pitch) and Kreider (Mr. Catch) staged an incredible display before 5,700 chilled, rain- soaked fans at Alumni Stadium on the UMass capuus. Lehigh stunned the Yankee Conference champions with a 71- yard Rieker to Kreider scoring pass on the first play of the game, ran up a 23-0 advantage before the startled Minutemen could settle down, and then won the game a second time after being caught late in the third quarter. It was a superlative contest between two multi-talented, hard-battling squads and it was a shame that poor weather conditions kept down the size of the crowd. Rieker, exhibiting the form which allowed him to set a Lehigh one-game yards-passing mark of 384 earlier this season against Bucknell, completed 25 of 40 aerials for 351 yards and four touchdowns despite poor footing and a strong UMass pass rush. His first half performance was unbelievable as he completed 18 of 26 throws for 283 yards and three TDs. After the intermission he connected on seven of 14 for 68 yards, one of the completions producing the game-winning touchdown. Many of the spectators hadn't settled into the seats when Rieker, on the first scrimmage play of the afternoon, dropped back and lofted the ball downfield to Kreider who made a catch behind the UMass defense and scurried into the end zone. Lehigh led 7-0 after 14 seconds. On Lehigh's next possession the Engineers moved from their 22 to the 18, where placekicker Ken Wood of Pennington, N.J., missed (Continued on Page 2)
