For Engineers Since 1965 Lehigh's Mighty Mikes—Frick and Lieberman — last weekend paced the Engineers to their most impressive NCAA Wrestling Tournament performance since 1965. Both of them won individual titles, Frick at 134 pounds and Lieberman at 177, and Frick was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 45th annual tourney which was held at Princeton. Heavyweight Terry DeStito of the Engineers placed fifth. Coach Thad Turner's squad finished fifth with 54 points, most ever for the Lehigh team in NCAA tournament history. Iowa was No. l with 102 followed by Oklahoma 77, Oklahoma State 68 and Iowa State 66V2. Penn State, only other eastern entry to make the Top Ten, squeezed into tenth position with 33. In 1965 Lehigh also had a pair of champions, Mike Caruso at 123 and Billy Stuart at 137, a runnerup in Joe Peritore at 130 and a fourth-place finisher in Rich Warnke at 115, totaling 45 points and getting third behind Iowa State (87) and Oklahoma State (86). This tournament was at Laramie, Wyo. In 1939 one of Coach Billy Sheridan's undefeated Lehigh squads was runnerup in the Nationals, behind Oklahoma. Thirty-three points were enough to win that one. Lehigh had 12. Obviously the scoring was done differently in past years.
