(Pat) Pazzetti Football Award has been established at Lehigh through an endowment from Mrs. Miriam Pazzetti, widow of the late All- American quarterback. Pat Pazzetti, a member of the Class of 1915 at Lehigh, was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1961. Frick Out Mike Frick, Lehigh lightweight wrestling star from Hamburg, N. J., has withdrawn from the NCAA East-West All-Star meet Feb. 4 at Oklahoma State. He has had trouble all winter with fatigue and a blood test late last week didn't disclose as much improvement as had been anticipated. He has undergone other blood tests during the season. His coach, Thad Turner, notified all-star meet officials of the decision to withdraw the Engineer sophomore who earlier had accepted an invitation to represent the East at 126 pounds. during the 1973 season. V. J. (Pat) Pazzetti, after whom the award is named, enjoyed lifetime recognition as a superb athlete and gentleman. He played during an era largely dominated by Ivy League teams but in 1912 he focused attention on Lehigh as he quarterbacked the Engineers to nine victories in 11 games, the only losses coming at the hands of Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indians, and Princeton. A consensus All-American backfield that season, compiled by Louis A. Douglas of The Washington Post, placed Pazzetti at quarterback, Charley Brickley (Continued on Page 2) Lehigh Rally Turns Back SR, 20-15 A 33-8 romp at Cornell, followed by a come-from-behind victory at Slippery Rock, 20-15, last week extended Lehigh's wrestling win streak through five meets. Coach Thad Turner's squad (10-5) faces one of its major tests of the season Saturday afternoon against Navy at Annapolis, Md., before returning to Grace Hall for successive duals against Bucknell, Army, Penn State and Columbia. Slippery Rock, one of the strongest teams in the Pennsylvania State College Conference and winner of 68 of its last 74 meets before hosting Lehigh, had 2,000 fans on hand to see the Rockets collide with the Engineers. Coach Fred Powell's grapplers were "up" for the test and it took a brilliant effort by Lehigh's heavier men to pull out the verdict. The Rockets led 13-6 after winning four of the first six bouts before Barry Dixon (167), Terry DeStito (177), Don McCorkel (190) and George Barkanic (heavyweight) slamed the door on their upset hopes. DeStito, of Enola, Pa., had the big win, a 3:17 fall over Jeff Lutz which catapulted Lehigh into its first lead of the afternoon, 15-13. Dixon, of DuBois, Pa., had moved his team into close range with a 6-4 edge over Randy Loudon. McCorkel, a PIAA champ last season at Hershey, Pa., High School, contributed a 5-5 draw against favored Bill Shuffstall. Barkanic, needing a win or a draw to safeguard the meet victory, enjoyed a 70-pound weight advantage over Dennis Fenton and moved to a 4-1 margin. Fenton, warily staying away from the- 250-pound Engineer, took only one shot. This came near the end of the bout with the score 1-1 and Barkanic having (Continued on Page 2) Skaters Rip Lafayette, 7-1 Lou Bericzi's hat trick spearheaded Lehigh's hockey team to a 7-1 rout of Lafayette at the Ice Palace, Allentown, as the Engineers' seasonal record was lifted to 2-1-1. Coach Toot Cahoon's squad earlier edged Penn State, 4-3, after a 2-2 tie, and bowed to visiting Elmira College, 11-1. Lehigh spotted Lafayette a 1-0 lead before crushing the Leopards with three goals in the second period and three more in the third. Winning goalie Pete Bechtel picked up a rare assist when he fed the puck to Neil Berquist for a 25-foot score. The summaries: Lafayette 1 0 0—1 Lehigh 1 3 3—7 Lafayette goal: Lane.
