DeStito Take Titles \ MAR In Easterns; Navy Team Champ State Second, Lehigh Third Tom Sculley and Terry DeStito won individual titles as Lehigh placed seven men in the 70th annual EIWA Tournament last week at the Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. Navy took team honors away from Penn State, 135 points to 113%, while Lehigh finished a strong third with 109. DeStito gained the Fletcher Award which goes annually to the star who has accumulated the most career points for his team in tournament competition. Penn State's John Fritz, who edged Mike Frick of Lehigh for the 126-pound championship, was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler honors by coaches of the competing teams. Frick won this trophy in 1973. George Bryant of Pittsburgh, champion at 118, took the Sheridan award for most falls in the least time. He had three in 11:14 along with a thrilling semifinal decision over Bobby Sloand of Lehigh, 13-11. Mrs. Billy Sheridan, widow of the great Lehigh coach after "TOM SCULLEY whom the award is named, made the presentation to Bryant. Others with three falls, but requiring more time than the Panther leadoff man, were Glenn Terry Wins Fletcher Cup Grant and Sculley of Lehigh, and Dan Muthler of Navy. Sculley had a chance to take the award with a fourth pin, in the finals at 134, but had to be content with an 8-4 decision over Fred Hahndorf of Navy. He was taken down by the Middie contender in the first period but reversed, moved ahead with an escape early in the second stanza and added a takedown of his own. In the final chapter he had another takedown, around two escapes, and time for a decisive margin. He'll take a 21-0-1 record into TERRY DeSTITO the Nationals at Ames, Iowa, March 14. DeStito became the second straight junior to gain the Fletcher trophy. To retain the trophy in 1975, DeStito will have to go all the way again. DeStito, only man to beat freshman Jerry White of Penn State prior to the tournament, had an easier time Saturday. White, who injured an ankle in the semis, defaulted at 4:35 with DeStito ahead of him 7-0. Terry took him down and put him on his back early, for a 4-0 advantage, reversed starting the second period and was given a penalty point as White was charged with stalling before Coach Bill Koll of the Lions called a halt to the bout. The Frick-Fritz rematch, anxiously awaited by everyone, found the Lion ace becoming the first man ever to beat Frick more than once, 8-6, in their 126-pound finale.
