The announcement was made by Fred Dunlap who'll be coaching the Engineers for the seventh year. Hill, 6-1 and 220-pounds, has been Lehigh's starting center for two years and was a third team Associated Press all-state collegiate choice last season. His father is Otto Hill, business manager of athletics at Rutgers. John played outstanding games against the Scarlet during his sophomore and junior campaigns as Lehigh won, 17-7 and 7-0. His power blocking was a vital factor in 1970 as the Engineers established a Lehigh seasonal Skaters Defeat New Haven Two goals apiece by Jack Paget and Steve Hoerner, and one by Dave Ball, powered Lehigh's hockey team to a 5-4 edge over New Haven University on a weekend trip into New England. Scheib, 6-foot and 185-pounds, has been a key member of the deep secondary for two years. Last season he led the team in punt returns with a 15-yard average, and in pass interceptions, the third resulting in a 24-yard touchdown run against Lafayette. Jamula, 6-4 and 240, earned a berth on the 1970 ECAC division 2 all-star team despite missing the second half of the campaign with a broken arm. He and linebacker George Nicholson captained last season's team. Coach's Comment' "We're waiting to win a few of those close ones. The team is playing tough basketball, working hard, and deserves some kind of break. Maybe returning home will help us. We seem to do a lot better in Grace Hall."... Roy Heckman, basketball. A pair of last-minute road setbacks, 61-59 at Rider and 59-58 at Albright, dropped Lehigh's varsity basketball team three games below the .500 mark and seriously dampened hopes of a winning campaign. The Engineers (5-8) must win at least nine of their remaining 13 starts to finish in the black, and the first obstacle in that plan looms Wednesday, Feb. 3, as they face Muhlenberg i n Allentown. Friday and Saturday nights, Feb. 5-6, they are in Grace Hall for major struggles against Colgate and Rutgers in that order. The losses at Rider and Albright followed identical patterns in the final minutes as attempts to safeguard five-point leads backfired. Lehigh led 59-54 at Rider when the Broncos tallied the last seven points of the contest to win. The Engineers were ahead 57-52 at Albright when the Lions outscored them 7-1 down the stretch to pull out the decision. Clinching layups, in each defeat, came in the final minute when opposing defenders tapped passes away from intended receivers and dribbled almost half the length of the court to score. Glenn Albano did the trick for Rider in a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference thriller, putting the Broncos ahead 60-59 with 50 seconds to play. Paul Mellini duplicated the feat for Albright, scoring with 18 seconds left and the Lions trailing, 58-57. The unhappy climaxes nullified periods of good basketball by the Engineers who turned in a strong first half at Rider and a good second half at Albright.
