RED RAIDERS NEXT FOR ENGINEER 11 Lehigh, with its best football team since 1961, hopes Saturday (Oct.30) to accomplish something no Engineer squad has done since that year . . . beat Colgate. Lehigh hosts the Raiders in Taylor Stadium, site of the 1961 triumph over Colgate by a 20-15 score as the Engineers moved toward a Lambert Cup emblematic of eastern: supremacy among medium- sized schools. Lehigh has battled the Raiders on fairly even terms recently but its best effort resulted only in a 14-14 deadlock in Bethlehem, during 1969. Rizzo? Rhoads Break Records During 50-0 Rout of Gettysburg Two records fell and two more came within point-blank range Saturday as Lehigh's rampaging footballers routed Gettysburg, 50-0, before It ,600 Upperclassman Parents Day spectators in Taylor Stadium. The victory assured the Engineers of their first winning season since 1961. It also was the first time since '61 that Gettysburg was defeated in Bethlehem. Coach Fred Dunlap*s squad (6-1) has games remaining against Colgate, Delaware, Bucknell and Lafayette in that order. The Engineers, battling for their third Lambert Cup symbolic of eastern gridiron supremacy among medium-sized schools, expect to hold second place in,the rankings this week. Last week they were No. 3 behind defending champion Delaware, and West Chester. Delaware manhandled West Chester on Saturday, 47-8. The Blue Hens are ranked No. 1 nationally among college division teams. Fullback Jack Rizzo was the big gun against the Bullets with four touchdowns and a placekick conversion for 25 points, most ever by a Lehigh star in one game. The previous mark of 24 was set by Dick Gabriel in 1949 and tied by Dick Doyne (1950), Pat Clark (1960) and Jack Coach's Comment "I thought we had our hardest hitting day of the season against Gettysburg, particularly on defense. Most of those fumbles were the result of good shots by our defenders. They made Gettysburg cough up the football. Now we've got to think about Colgate, Delaware, Bucknell and Lafayette." . .. Fred Dunlap, football. Paget (1968). Following his fourth TD he was allowed to attempt the extra point, and move into the record book, and his kick was straight between the uprights. * Sophomore end John Rhoads provided Saturday's second new mark when he boomed an 87-yard punt from the Engineers' 8-yard line to the Gettysburg 5-yard stripe. The old record was 86 yards by Steve Smoke in 1940 against Hampden-Sydney. Rhoads' punt was a cloud- threatening spiral which orbited far over the heads of all defenders, landed about the 20-yard line and bounced to the five before being retrieved. Records which probably will fall next weekend against Colgate, in Taylor Stadium, are for yards passing one season- -(1,244- by- Rick Laubach in 1967) and team yards passing one season (1,454 in 1968). Sophomore quarterback Kim McQuilken already has picked up 1,227 yards in the air and the team has a total of 1,434. McQuilken completed nine of 17 attempts for 144 yards and a touchdown against the Bullets. Rizzo averaged almost 10 yards a try on the ground, carrying the ball 13 times for 127 yards to collect his quartet of touchdowns. Dunlap, who had a game taken away from him two years ago by Gettysburg here, 26-24 after leading 24-6 with only five minutes left to play, took no chances Saturday. Most of the starters remained in action until the three-quarter mark when Lehigh had a 43-0 advantage. The Engineers were opportunists, pouncing upon six Bullet fumbles and intercepting three passes, and turning almost all of these chances into points. At the start of the game Billy (Conitnued on Page 2) Channel 39-TV Adds Colgate, Lehigh Game To Fall Schedule Lehigh's major football attraction against Colgate, in Taylor Stadium on Saturday afternoon, has been added to the fall television schedule. According to an announcement today by Sam Connor, director of public information at the University, the game will be taped by WLVT (Channel 39) for showing Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. Contests against C.W. Post and Drexel already have been featured by Channel 39 this season and the 107th game against Lafayette on Nov. 20 also will be seen over the local TV outlet. Shel Siegel will handle the play by play assisted by Dave Leonard, sports information director at Colgate, and Connor. In addition to the Channel 39 showing Sunday, at 1 p.m., the tape will be featured over WSKG, Channel 46 of Binghamton, N.Y., one week later (Sunday, Nov. 7) at 4:30 p.m. It also may appear on WCNY, Channel 24, of Syracuse, N.Y., if arrangements for a presentation can be completed.
