South Mountaineer Published by the Alumni Student Grants Committee, Lehig^T University Alumni-Association Vol. 13-No. 12 DECEMBER 22, 1970 BETHLEHEM, PENNA. Cagers, Matmen Wisniewski, Falkenbach Net Winning Scores In Thrillers; Frosh Team at .500 Mark An incredible triple-overtime victory over Bucknell marked Lehigh basketball play as the Engineers (3-5) won three times in five starts in a climb toward the .500 level. The Bucknell triumph, in Lehigh's first Middle Atlantic Conference battle of the winter found the Engineers getting nine points in the last 1:10 of the third extra period to pull out a 73-71 decision. Since an 85-66 loss at Maryland the Engineers have been specializing in close contests. They edged Bucknell, traveled to Delaware for another MAC test and lost, 72-70, then returned home last week for a pair of non-league games in which they topped Elizabethtown, 74-68, and Drexel, 76-74. Only the E-town fray could be termed routine with Lehigh jumping off to an early 13-2advantage and leading by 19 with three minutes remaining. The Blue Jays closed fast against Engineer reserves, cutting the final deficit to six. Bucknell led 71-64 with 1:10 remaining as Hank Wisniewski sank a rebound, Johnny Waters added a basket and free throw, and Wisniewski dumped in another rebound to give the Engineers a tie with 30 seconds remaining. Bucknell missed its final field goal try, Lehigh called time with five seconds left, and Wisniewski fought in for a lay up with two seconds remaining to cap the remarkable comeback.
