Nothing but blue skies The large crowd that turned out for Mike Bolton's farewell party last week included James Greenleaf, associate professor of business, and Lou Wagner, formerly of the development office. President Peter Likins praised Bolton, former vice president of advancement, as a "superstar fundraiser" able to project a cheerful optimism through any difficulty. "The sky can be pouring rain," said Likins, "but Mike persists in looking through the drops until he spots blue sky." Bolton, vice president of public affairs, is taking a position with the senior staff of Safeguard Scientifics Inc. The selection of Lehigh's next president, now underway, will involve two groups: the executive committee of the Board of Trustees and a campus committee representing faculty, administration and students. They will be assisted by William Bowen, vice chairman of Heidrick & Struggles, an executive search firm. The announcement came from Ron Ulrich, chairman of the board of trustees, in a communication to campus earlier this week. As in previous presidential searches, the executive committee of the board of trustees will make the final selection following ongoing consultation with the campus committee. The following individuals have agreed to serve as members of the campus search committee for the search for the next president: Raymond Bell, professor of education and social relations and chairperson of the department of education and human services; Mark Bickhard, the Henry R. Luce Professor in Cognitive Robotics; Bobb Carson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Ellen Cogswell '99, English and biology major; Anthony Corallo, assistant vice president of facilities services and campus planning; Mohamed El- - AosoOTy lacocca Professor and chairperson of the department of chemical engineering; Ryan Faulkingham '99, business major; Lorna Hunter, dean of admission and financial aid; Diane Hyland, chairperson of the department of psychology; George Krallis, doctoral student in civil and environmental engineering; Matthew Melone, assistant professor of law in the department of business and economics; and David Williams, the Harold Chambers Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and chairperson of the department. Members of executive committee,include: Pat Battin, retired, former president of the Commission on Preservation and Access, Washington, D.C.; Bill Clayton, senior vice president of Smith Barney, Florham Park, N.J.; Gene Mercy, chairman of The Granite Capital International Group, New York; Bill Hecht, chairman, president and CEO of PP&L, Allentown; Ted Scheetz, chairman of Guyasuta Investment Advisors, Inc., Pittsburgh; Don Stabler, president and board chairman, Stabler Companies, Inc., Harris- burg; Karen Stuckey, partner of Price Waterhouse, New York; Ron Ulrich, president of Equinox Capital Management, New York; Hap Wagner, chairman, president and CEO, Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown; and Frank Walsh, chairman of the board of Wesray Capital Group, Morristown, N.J. The goal of the search process is to select a new president by next spring, with a starting date at Lehigh next summer. Individuals interested in suggesting criteria for selection or to nominate candidates for the position, should contact a member of the campus committee or Linda Mery in the president's office, who will receive correspondence and maintain confidential files for the campus committee.
