I* I1 Did you know that the Lehigh ^ n Valley is almost as haunted as * l Transylvania? The mountains are I crawling with spirits and haunts, all listed in the book Ghost Stories ofthe Lehigh Valley. Although Lehigh was pronounced "devoid of ghosts" in 1991 by W. Ross Yates, professor emeritus in government, local authors Charles J. Adams III and David J. Seibold still found enough ghostly tales about other familiar landmarks to relate. On Tues., Oct. 25, they will be on hand in the Bookstore from 2-4:30 p.m. to sign copies of their book. The 147-page book was published in 1993 by Exeter House Books of Reading, Pa. It is a compilation of "true tales of ghosts, haunted houses and the unexplained in Lehigh, Carbon, and Northampton counties." The book includes stories about "The Lady in White" and "Chelsea, the Ghost of Catasauqua." Another interesting tale, "Institutes of Higher Haunting," tells of ghosts inhabiting local colleges in the Lehigh Valley. Moravian, Muhlenberg and Kutztown are listed as highly spirited, haunted schools. Lehigh is relatively spirit-free. As the book notes, "There are no dead janitors lurking in the halls." However, rumor has it that there is a ghost in Linderman Library. Well, who knows? Afterall, just think of all those hidden places. The two authors have written nine other books, all related to ghosts and the supernatural. They include Ghost Stories of Berks County, Pocono Ghosts, Legends and Lore, Shipwrecks, Sea Stories and Legends ofthe Delaware Coast, and Legends of Long Beach Island. In conjunction with this book signing, the Bookstore will offer a 20 percent discount on all Exeter House Books and will remain open until 6 p.m. For more information on the book signing, please contact Susan Martrich, assistant director ofthe bookstore, at 83381. Dan Quayle to be executive-in-residence ^T^ ormer Vice I President W ^MH Quayle will be an executive- in-residence at the lacocca Institute on Monday, Oct. 24. While on campus he will be a guest lecturer in two classes and have lunch with the lacocca student scholars and their faculty mentors. Quayle will speak in Prof. Rich Aronson's course, "Federal Public Finance" in the morning and Prof. Frank Colon's course, "Urban Observatory: Citizenship at the Grassroots" in the early afternoon Quayle is currently chairman ofthe Competitiveness Center of the Hudson Institute. The center is a non-partisan, education institution founded to help America meet the challenges of global competition. "We are pleased to have Mr. Quayle as an executive- in-residence," said Richard Barsriess, executive director of the lacocca Former Vice President Dan Quayle Institute. "He brings a wealth of national experience to share with the students. His visit will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to interact with a national figure." Quayle was the 44th U.S. vice president, serving from 1989 to 1993. He was a member of the National Security Council, the first chairman of the National Space Council, and head of the Council on Competitiveness. He had served as a U.S. Congressman for four years and as a U.S. senator from Indiana for eight years before running for the vice presidency on the Bush- Quayle ticket. Before entering politics he had worked in the Indiana state government, practiced law, and served as associate publisher of his family's newspaper, the Huntington Herald-Press.
