United Way Drive will kick-off Wed., Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m. in Clayton Conference Center (room 91) of Ranch Business Center. Jim Gunton, dean of the College of Arts and Science, will chair this year's campaign. Many of our friends and neighbors are suffering in the current economic downturn and need our support more than ever. Please be as generous as possible! m ^ gh's "Wr 8 Man Re Defensive Li South J Joynt to Speak at Founder's Day Ceremony Oct. 13 A-^ehigh University will confer undergraduate and advanced degrees upon nearly 250 students at the University's 113th annual Founder's Day Ceremonies on Sunday, October 13. Carey B. Joynt, the Monroe J. Rathbone Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Lehigh, will give the principal address. He will discuss "American Ascendancy: Challenges and Opportunities." During the Founder's Day ceremonies Peter Likins, president of Lehigh, will confer degrees upon seniors and graduate students who completed their degree requirements over the past summer. Diplomas will be awarded to students in Lehigh's Colleges of Arts and Science, Business and Economics, Education, and Engineering and Applied Science. Three honorary degrees will be presented at the ceremony. Robert I. Rotberg, president of Lafayette College, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. A prolific scholar and writer on African and Haitian affairs, Rotberg is the author or editor of numerous publications on African and Haitian topics. Beatrice C. Engstrand, assistant professor of neurology at New York Medical College, will receive continued on page 2 PHILIP A.
