Malone Lehigh University Writers' Group Gold and silver describe the College of Business and Economics (CBE) this year as it celebrates the 50th and 25th anniversaries of its accreditation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for its undergraduate and graduate business programs. Lehigh's College of Business and Economics is the only school in the Lehigh Valley with either its undergraduate business program or its MBA program accredited by the AACSB. In fact, Lehigh is one of only 224 schools nationwide to have both programs accredited by the group. '' An accredited school is the hallmark of institutional commitment and quality in business education, which is important in attracting high quality students and faculty," said Richard W. Barsness, dean of the college. He added that Lehigh has also earned an additional AACSB accreditation for its undergraduate accounting program. The college is one of only 60 schools to have achieved triple program accreditation-undergraduate, graduate and accounting. There are 1300 undergraduate business programs in this country and 700 MBA programs nationwide, according to Charles W. Hickman, director of projects and member services at AACSB. Of that number only 261 schools are accredited—19 of those are approved solely for their undergraduate programs, 18 merely for their master's programs, and only 224 schools for both programs.
