Simmons is being used by the admissions office as part of its recruiting efforts for the Class of 1993- The poster's message to students is concise: "Your college years are a time of asking questions, challenging assumptions, and trying new things. Lehigh University offers you lots of territory to explore, with 62 majors in the arts, business, engineering, the humanities, and physical and social sciences." Judge Adams To Give Tresolini Law Lecture The Honorable Arlin M. Adams, formerly judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, will give the 1988-89 Tresolini Lecture in Law at Lehigh University on Thursday, November 10, at 8 p.m. in the Kravis Auditorium of Neville Hall. Adams will speak on "The Role of the Practitioner in the Rapidly Changing Legal Climate." The talk is open to the public free of charge and sponsored by Lehigh's law and legal institutions program. Adams retired as a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1987 and now serves as counsel to the Philadelphia law firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal and Lewis, of which he was a senior partner from 1947 to 1969. He has also been secretary and is currently vice president of the American Philosophical Society. He was a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow at Lehigh in 1981. He has served as Secretary of Public Welfare for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and as a board member of the Federal Judicial Center. He is currently a member of Continued On Page 4> Adams Medical Institute Asks Lehigh To Compete For Science Grants By Rita T. Malone Lehigh University Writer's Group Lehigh is among 100 universities across the U.S. which have been invited to compete for $60 million in grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The five-year grants to improve undergraduate science education are expected to be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million each. Grants will be awarded for the most creative, effective and integrated proposals describing programs for students, faculty and curricula. The universities invited to enter the competition were chosen based on the number and proportion of graduates over the past decade who went on to medical school or earned doctorates in biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics.
